The real problem
Spring review at home in Orange County
Orange County Public Schools began 2026-27 on August 11, 2026. For many families this year also brought a school change: OCPS closed several campuses at the end of May 2026, including Bonneville, Orlo Vista, Eccleston, Chickasaw, McCoy and Meadow Woods elementary schools, and consolidated their students into other schools. A child in Grades 3–5 who changed schools has had to adjust to a new teacher's methods before spring testing arrives, and parents often want to check at home that nothing has slipped. Florida's ELA and math standards are the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking, B.E.S.T., in place for all grades since 2022-23, and that is what your child's class is working toward. Homeschool families face their own deadline. Florida's home education program requires an annual evaluation filed with the county superintendent, chosen from five options, which include a nationally normed test given by a certified teacher and the state assessment. Either way, the hard part is not finding worksheets but knowing which skills need work. A short check followed by targeted practice is more useful than a stack of pages done in a rush. Check current homeschool law with the state or a homeschool legal resource.
Why it fits
How the bundle works at the kitchen table
The five resources range from a few minutes a day to longer review sessions. Here is how a parent can use each.
- Math warm-ups for Grades 3 and 4 make a short daily routine before homework or dinner.
- Daily ELA Practice task cards give one reading or language task at a time, easy for a tired child.
- Progress monitoring in the math toolkit shows which skills to practice instead of guessing.
- The ELA toolkit gives longer practice for weekends or the weeks after spring break.
- Homeschool families can use the toolkits as a run-up to a test-based annual evaluation.
- Printed pages keep practice off screens and give you finished work to show a teacher.
Getting started
A home practice plan for the spring
These steps are a suggestion for families. Fit them to your child's school calendar or your homeschool year.
- Start with a quick checkUse the progress monitoring in the math toolkit on a calm weekend. It tells you whether to spend time on numbers, fractions or problem solving first.
- Set a ten-minute weekday habitPick one warm-up or one task card each weekday. Ten focused minutes after school fits around homework and keeps practice from feeling like a second school day.
- Use weekends for the toolkitsSave the longer ELA and math toolkit practice for weekends, when your child is rested and you can sit alongside. A Saturday morning slot works well for many families.
- Talk to the teacher in springIf you see a gap that does not close, mention it to your child's teacher. A few finished pages make that conversation concrete. Ask what support the school can offer.
- Ease off in the final weekShortly before testing, go back to short, familiar pieces. Confidence matters more than squeezing in new material at the end. Let your child pick a favorite warm-up to finish the week.
What to buy
What to buy for your child
The Grades 3–5 Test Prep Bundle at $64.99 suits families focused on spring review; its five parts cost $104.95 separately. If your third grader needs more general practice across the year, the 3rd Grade Practice Bundle ($59.99) adds grammar, writing, reading and the Numbers to 1000 unit. For a fourth grader, the 4th Grade Practice Bundle ($69.99) includes full units on fractions and on area and perimeter. If math is the main concern, the Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99, parts $99.96) pairs the math toolkit with three math units.
Honest limits
Limits to keep in mind
The bundle is written for any state and contains no Florida content. It is not aligned with B.E.S.T. and does not reproduce any state test, so compare it with your child's grade-level expectations. The warm-ups cover Grades 3 and 4; fifth graders use the toolkits and task cards. Homeschool families still choose and arrange their own evaluation. You print the pages. The licence covers your family; a tutoring group needs a short message to Teach Lessons first. Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value if it is not a fit.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is this aligned with B.E.S.T. or Florida's state test?
No. The bundle is not aligned with Florida's B.E.S.T. standards and is not endorsed by the state or Orange County Public Schools. It is general Grades 3–5 review. Use your child's report card and teacher feedback to see which skills matter most. Treat it as extra practice next to school.
Can it prepare my homeschooled child for the annual evaluation?
It gives practice and a way to spot weak skills before a test-based evaluation. It is not a copy of any specific test. Which evaluation option you choose, and how you prepare, is up to you; confirm current requirements with the state or a homeschool legal resource.
My child moved schools after the OCPS closures. Is this a good idea now?
It can be, once your child has settled in. Start with the quick check rather than daily practice, so you know whether anything actually slipped before adding work at home. If the check shows no gaps, a few warm-ups a week are enough to keep skills fresh while your child settles.
How long should practice take each day?
About ten minutes on school days is plenty for most children in Grades 3–5. Use weekends for longer toolkit sessions if your child is willing. If your child is already doing homework, count that time and keep home practice shorter on heavy nights. Consistency over several weeks matters more than long sessions.
Does it help a fifth grader?
Yes, through the ELA and math toolkits and the daily ELA cards. The math warm-ups are for Grades 3 and 4, so a fifth grader gets less short daily math from this bundle. You can add short math practice of your own on the other days.
How is it delivered?
As a digital download. You get the link by email right after purchase, and it stays in your account under Orders, so you can print new pages whenever you need them. Print one week at a time so the pile on the table stays small and your child sees steady progress.
