The real problem
Seniors, a new requirement and the step into work
South Carolina's personal finance requirement applies from the Class of 2027. In the 2026–27 school year that is the senior class, so the first required group is in school right now. For many of these students, the most pressing money question is not retirement or investing. It is the first paycheck: how to get the job, how to keep it, and what to do with the money once it arrives. That is why money lessons on their own can feel abstract to seniors. A budget makes more sense right after a student has written a cover letter and practiced an interview. Debt prevention lands harder once the class has talked about time management and what a missed shift costs. CTE, business and advisory teachers see this link already; the hard part is finding material that covers both sides without stitching together a dozen sources. Senior-year schedules are also crowded, and a finance course competes with everything else for time. Units that combine money habits with job readiness let one block of class time serve two needs students will face within months of graduation.
Why it fits
Eight units that connect money and work
The bundle puts one money unit at the center and surrounds it with the workplace skills seniors need next.
- Handling Money and Debt Prevention is the personal finance anchor for the other seven units.
- Application Training walks students through a cover letter, a CV and interview practice.
- Business letter and professional email practice prepares students to contact employers or training providers.
- The customer conversation and conflict unit fits seniors already working retail or service jobs.
- Time management and study methods help students balancing school, shifts and family duties.
- Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work explains how the jobs students apply for are changing.
Getting started
One way to pair money and career units in a semester
A suggested sequence for a course or advisory block. Add the Personal Finance Starter Bundle if your district's course needs more money content.
- Open with money habitsStart with Handling Money and Debt Prevention. It sets the question for the whole sequence: once you earn money, how do you keep it working for you instead of against you?
- Move straight to applicationsTeach Application Training next, so students write a real cover letter and CV while the money unit is fresh. Run mock interviews in pairs or with volunteers from your school.
- Practice workplace communicationGroup the professional email, presenting and customer conversation units together. Students who already work can bring real situations; others work from the tasks in each unit.
- Cover time, teams and conflictThe time management and team conflict units round out the soft skills. Tie them back to money: a missed shift or a lost job changes a budget right away.
- Close with AI and the future of workEnd with Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work. It gets seniors thinking about which skills will hold their value, a fitting last question before graduation.
What to buy
Career bundle, finance starter or both
Buy the Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle ($99.99, parts $199.92 separately) when you want money and work skills in one sequence. If your South Carolina course needs more personal finance than work skills, the Personal Finance Starter Bundle ($59.99) is the better first buy, with a Day 1 lesson, values, SMART goals, a mindset quiz, debt prevention and interest. Both bundles contain the handling money and debt unit, so buying both means one repeated unit. Business teachers can add the Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle ($109.99). The single Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work unit is $24.99 if that is all you need.
Honest limits
Honest limits for South Carolina teachers
The bundle is not a full personal finance course, and it was not written for South Carolina. There are no South Carolina standards codes or state-specific examples, and it makes no claim about what counts toward the requirement. Check it against South Carolina's standards and your district's course outline, and add lessons on finance topics it does not cover. Mock interview partners, real job postings and local examples come from you. One purchase is for your own teaching; for team use, message Teach Lessons first. You can exchange it for store credit within 7 days if it does not fit.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Will this bundle count for South Carolina's personal finance requirement?
Not on its own. It is not aligned to South Carolina's standards, not endorsed by the state, and not a complete personal finance course. It is a set of career readiness units with one personal finance unit. Ask your district which course delivers the requirement and check the topics against that course's outline before using the bundle within it.
Which students does the requirement cover?
South Carolina's requirement starts with the Class of 2027. In the 2026–27 school year, that is the senior class. Your counselor or district office can confirm which course delivers it at your school and when students take it. Because the first required group is already seniors, there is little time to wait.
Our school restricts phones. Does that matter here?
Not for this bundle. Budget Proviso 1.103 has required South Carolina schools to restrict cell phones since January 2025, and the units are worksheets, slides and activities that work on paper or a projector. Students can draft cover letters and practice emails by hand or on school devices, depending on what your school provides.
Does it suit students who already have jobs?
Yes. Working students can apply the customer conversation, conflict and time management units on their next shift, and they bring real numbers to the money unit. Students without jobs can use the application training to prepare for one, so both groups have something concrete to work on.
Can I use it if school closes for a storm?
Some of it, yes. Upstate districts closed for the rest of the week after Hurricane Helene, and a closure is a reasonable time for independent work like drafting a CV or a professional email. Send those pages home and pick up interviews and group work when school reopens.
Can our CTE department share one copy?
Each purchase covers one teacher's own teaching. A CTE department that wants shared use can arrange it with a short message to Teach Lessons before sharing. The files cannot be posted publicly, uploaded to sharing sites or resold. One teacher can try it first; if it is not a fit, the 7-day store credit exchange applies.
