Why Arkansas teachers use these
Arkansas changed a great deal in a short time. The 2023 LEARNS Act moved day-to-day K–12 work into the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, created the Arkansas LEARNS education-savings-account program, and added a literacy and retention policy that pulls elementary staff toward reading intervention. Testing shifted alongside it: ATLAS replaced the previous statewide system and now runs from grade 3 through grade 10, with the ACT at grade 11. A math teacher in that setting faces a testing window in nearly every grade taught, a set of standards to evidence, and a professional development calendar filling up with rollout sessions for each new policy. What disappears first is the quiet hour that used to go into building materials. A finished unit returns the part of the job that can be bought — the leveled practice, the deck, the answer keys, timed to a period and already differentiated — so the hour you do get goes to the students in front of you.
A sequence you can run
Five lessons from a single file
Each unit is built as a short sequence rather than a one-off worksheet, so one download covers about two weeks of lessons and still leaves extension work for students who finish early.
- Diagnose with the warm-upRun the first page cold. Five minutes of it tells you which students still lose the sign, which skip the check, and which tier each one should get.
- Teach the method from the deckThe slides work one example line by line, with the reasoning written out. Project it, talk through the second example, and let students copy the structure rather than the answer.
- Hand out the tier, not the packetEvery student works the same problem type at the depth that suits them. Nobody sits in front of a page that is either impossible or already finished.
- Mark against the key, in classThe answer keys are complete, so students can check their own work in pairs while you move around the room and spend your attention on the two or three who stalled.

Differentiation in a math class usually fails in one of two directions: the same sheet for everyone, or a stack of separate activities nobody has time to make. Four tiers of one task avoid both. The problem type is identical across the tiers, so the work students hand back is comparable, but the scaffolding differs — more worked structure at the bottom, fewer prompts and an extra layer of reasoning at the top. That comparability is what makes the pages usable as evidence later. When a parent asks what their child can do, or a colleague asks how a student is progressing against the Arkansas Academic Standards, you have dated written work rather than a recollection.

Are these aligned to the Arkansas Academic Standards?
They are independent teaching resources. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE). Each unit is written to the concepts and skills the Arkansas Academic Standards describe for its subject and grade band, which is not the same thing as an official alignment document. Open the preview, hold it against your own scope and sequence, and buy only if the topics land where you need them in the year.
Do these fit ATLAS?
ATLAS (Arkansas Teaching and Learning Assessment System) runs in grades 3 through 10, with the ACT at grade 11. The units are not practice tests, they contain no ATLAS items, and we make no claim about scores. What they give you is the ordinary groundwork those tests draw on: multi-step problems, the vocabulary written out, and tasks that ask a student to explain a method in sentences rather than circle a letter.
Can I use a unit a grade above or below the band listed?
Most teachers do. The bands describe where the material usually sits, not a lock on who may use it. Four tiers mean a workbook marked Grades 5–9 has an entry level that suits a struggling eighth grader and a top level that stretches a strong sixth grader, and because the files are editable you can cut the two hardest pages or add a warm-up of your own. Check the preview against the topic you are teaching, not the grade on the cover.
Can the written tasks count as graded work?
Yes, and they are built for it. Each unit ends with a task that produces something on paper — a worked solution with an explanation, not a page of circled answers — and the keys are complete enough that two teachers marking the same set would agree on what counts as correct. Because every tier asks the same underlying question, work from a whole class sits side by side. Whether it enters the gradebook is your department's call.
Could we use this in department or PD time?
Teachers do use the units that way. Taking one download into a department meeting gives everybody the same concrete thing to argue about: where the topic sits in the year, which tier suits which section, and what a good written answer to the closing task actually looks like. The license covers the teacher who bought it and all of their own sections, so a colleague teaching from the material needs their own copy — across a department the bundle usually works out cheaper.
Our schedule shifted again after LEARNS. Is a bought unit worth it?
That is the argument for buying rather than building. When one year brings a literacy and retention policy, a replacement assessment system and a run of rollout sessions, the first thing cut is the evening you would have spent making materials. A finished unit is the piece of the workload you can hand off: the lesson plan, the four tiers and the keys already exist, and the same file serves every section you teach this year and next.
