Why West Virginia teachers use these
The Third Grade Success Act put literacy screening and intervention into every West Virginia elementary school, and its effects reach further up the building than the title suggests. Staffing, coaching hours and professional development follow the mandate, which is the right call for early reading and still leaves a middle school science teacher assembling material from whatever turns up free online. The same students reach grade 7 with a documented reading history, and a physics worksheet pitched at grade level will shut some of them out of a subject they could otherwise handle. The five-lesson shape of each unit
Every unit moves from a prediction the class commits to on paper, through the rule that settles it, to a written account of the physics that is worth keeping in a folder.
- Ask for a prediction in writingBefore anything is explained, students write what they think will happen to the current, the force or the pressure. Wrong predictions give the unit something to argue with.
- Put the rule on the boardThe slide deck introduces the relationship the lesson turns on and works one example all the way through, with the units and the rearrangement shown rather than assumed.
- Practice until the pattern showsTiered problem sets build from substitution to multi-step work. Two students at neighboring desks can be on different sheets and still be talking about the same relationship.
- Break the pattern on purposeOne task sets up a case where the obvious answer is wrong — a circuit that behaves oddly, a force that does no work. This is where understanding separates from recall.
- Write the accountThe closing task asks for an explanation in sentences, with the reasoning visible. It is the piece of work that answers a parent, an administrator or a support team meeting.

Two ways teachers here use them
Reading level and physics ability are not the same thing, and a class of West Virginia thirteen-year-olds will prove it to you inside a week. The tiers are built so the science does not thin out as the text does: the lightest version asks the same question about the same circuit, with shorter sentences, a worked first step and more space for the answer. What that protects is the record. When every student writes something they can actually write, the folder at the end of the unit holds comparable work from the whole class, and a WVGSA year does not become the only source of information about what a student knows.

Are these approved by the state?
No, and we do not claim to be. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE). These are independent resources written to the concepts and skills the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards describe for the relevant subject and grade band. The fit test that matters is your own: open the preview, read it against your district's scope and sequence, and buy only if it saves work.
Will these prepare students for the WVGSA?
Not in the sense of drilling test items, and we make no claim about scores. The West Virginia General Summative Assessment runs in grades 3 through 8 and again at grade 11, and it asks students to interpret data, read closely and explain their reasoning in writing. Those are the habits these units build week by week, in normal lessons, with tasks that get marked. What we do not sell is practice tests or released items.
Is the bundle better value than buying units one at a time?
It depends how much of a course you are covering. Single units at $24.99 make sense when you need one topic done properly or you are trying the material for the first time. We already have a course outline. How do these fit into it?
They are designed to be slotted in, not to replace what you have. Each unit stands on its own, assumes no earlier purchase and covers a topic your outline probably already names — circuits, forces, energy. Match the topic list in the preview to the weeks in your outline, then edit the Word files so the notation matches what your students met last year.
How readable are the worksheets for students who need support?
The layout is deliberately plain: clear headings, one idea per box, generous space for working, no decorative clutter competing with the question. Four tiers of every sheet mean the reading load can drop without the physics dropping with it. Because you get the Word files, you can enlarge the type, change the typeface to whatever a student reads best, widen the line spacing or cut a column before printing.
Science time in our building keeps losing minutes. Can I use part of a unit?
Yes, and many teachers do. Each of the five lessons works on its own, so a squeezed week can take the demonstration lesson and the written task and leave the middle out. The lesson plan gives timings for each part, which makes it easier to see what fits in the thirty-five minutes you actually have. Nothing later in the unit depends on a student having completed every earlier sheet.
