Arizona Grade 6 Global Studies: A Middle School World History Curriculum
For Arizona's Grade 6 Global Studies year, World History Complete covers much of the history the state outlines for the Eastern Hemisphere: early civilizations, classical empires, belief systems and the medieval world. It has 190+ no-prep resources built around sources, maps and timelines. What it does not give you is Arizona framing or the regional geography side of the course, which you add yourself.
View World History CompleteWorld History Complete – Middle School costs $149.90 for 190+ resources, or $189.90 with the Teach-Life-Balance course. The real problem
What Arizona puts into Grade 6, and why it is a lot
Arizona's History and Social Science Standards, adopted in October 2018, title Grade 6 Global Studies: World Regions and Cultures. The history strand for that year crosses the Eastern Hemisphere from early civilizations to the Renaissance and Reformation. It names early river civilizations, world religions, classical empires, and feudalism in both medieval Europe and Japan. That is thousands of years and several continents in one school year, taught to eleven-year-olds, with a geography lens on top. Grade 7, Integrated Global Studies, then starts at the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment and runs to the present, and Grade 8 turns to citizenship and civic engagement. So the Grade 6 teacher has to reach the Reformation by spring, or the Grade 7 teacher inherits the gap. World history materials are usually organized by era, not by Arizona's grade split, which means someone has to sort units into the right year. Then comes the weekly grind: finding a source on Mesopotamia that sixth graders can read, writing questions for it, building a key, and doing it all again for Rome the following week.
Why it fits
How the content areas line up with Grades 6 and 7
Here is where each part of the product sits against Arizona's middle school outline. Confirm every match against the standards text yourself.
- Early civilizations and ancient societies match the river civilizations that open Grade 6.
- Classical civilizations and belief systems support the world religions and classical empires strand.
- Medieval worlds and global connections give you feudalism material; check how far it reaches toward Japan.
- Early modern periods and cultural exchange move toward the Renaissance and Reformation endpoint.
- Source, map and timeline tasks give sixth graders regular practice with historical evidence.
- Global interactions units can carry over into Grade 7 Integrated Global Studies.
Getting started
A suggested route through the Grade 6 year
Treat this pacing as a suggestion. Your district calendar and pacing guide come first.
- Sort units into Grade 6 and Grade 7Read the unit list with Arizona's Grade 6 and Grade 7 descriptions side by side. Keep ancient, classical and medieval units for your year and flag later material for the Grade 7 teacher down the hall.
- Start with river civilizationsOpen the year with the early civilizations units. Their maps and timelines build the habit of asking where and when before asking what happened, which pays off for the rest of the year.
- Pair belief systems with empiresTeach the belief systems material alongside the classical civilizations units, so students see religion and empire as connected forces that shaped each other, rather than as two separate chapters.
- Add regions and Japan where neededWorld Regions and Cultures asks for geography, and the feudalism standard names Japan. Add your own map lessons, and if the medieval units do not cover Japan, a short comparison you write yourself.
- Finish at the ReformationClose with the early modern material up to the Renaissance and Reformation. Use the worksheets and answer keys for an end-of-year review before students move on to Grade 7.
What to buy
World History Complete or one of the bigger bundles
For a single Arizona Grade 6 classroom, World History Complete at $149.90 is the direct choice; the $189.90 version adds the Teach-Life-Balance course, which costs $89.90 on its own. If the same budget also serves Grade 7, look at the XXL History Teaching Bundle ($249.90), which runs from ancient civilizations through the Reformation, absolutism, industrialization and the Cold War. The World History Complete Curriculum Bundle ($249.90, 1000+ pages) adds the Enlightenment, both World Wars and decolonization. For single topics, the Middle School History Units Bundle costs $74.99 instead of $123.91 for its nine parts.
Honest limits
Honest limits for Arizona teachers
World History Complete is a general middle school world history program. It has no Arizona-specific content and no Arizona standards codes, and it is a history program rather than a regions-and-cultures geography course, so check it against the Arizona History and Social Science Standards and fill the gaps yourself. Printing and classroom supplies are yours. The licence covers your own teaching; for a department, send Teach Lessons a short message before sharing. Not what you hoped for? Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value, not cash.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does World History Complete match Arizona's Grade 6 standards?
It is not aligned with or approved under Arizona's History and Social Science Standards, and the materials carry no Arizona codes. Its early civilization, classical and medieval content overlaps with the Grade 6 history strand, but whether it covers what your district expects is something you check yourself against the standards and your pacing guide.
Can I also use it for Grade 7 Integrated Global Studies?
Partly. Arizona's Grade 7 starts with the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment and runs to the present. The early modern and global interactions units touch the start of that span. For the modern era, the World History Complete Curriculum Bundle, with the Enlightenment, both World Wars and the Cold War, is the closer fit.
Is there anything for Grade 8 civics?
Not in this product. Arizona's Grade 8 turns to citizenship and civic engagement. Civics Complete – Middle School ($149.90) is sold separately and covers rights and responsibilities, constitutions, separation of powers, and federal, state and local government. It is also not written for Arizona, so the same checking applies.
Does it work for students reading below grade level?
The worksheets are differentiated, and the program is described as suitable for mixed-ability classrooms. Source tasks use images, maps and timelines as well as texts, so not every task depends on long reading. Students in Structured English Immersion settings may still need extra vocabulary support that you add.
Can a substitute teach from it?
Yes, that is one of its intended uses. Lessons are no-prep and come with answer keys, so a sub can hand out a worksheet or run an activity without your planning notes. Leave a short note on where the class is in the sequence and which unit comes next.
How do I get the files, and is there a discount?
A download link arrives by email right after purchase, and the files stay in your customer account under Orders. If you buy two or more Complete Curriculum packages, for example World History and Civics, code TEACHMORE15 takes 15% off. The code does not work on bundles or single units.
