The real problem
What Delaware expects, and what it leaves to you
Delaware offers homeschool families three routes. In a single-family homeschool, parents teach their own children, mostly at home. In a multi-family homeschool, children from more than one family are taught mainly by their parents, and the families appoint a liaison who reports to the Department of Education for all of them. A third option, coordinated with the local district, requires the superintendent to find the instruction adequate in writing and the family to teach the same subjects as public schools. For the first two routes, the sources name no subject list, no teacher qualification and no standardized testing. The paperwork is short: an enrollment statement by September 30 and an end-of-year attendance report by July 31, both filed through a Department of Education online account. That freedom brings its own problem. With children in, say, second and fifth grade, a parent has to decide what grade-level grammar and writing look like for each, then find material that neither bores one child nor loses the other. Buying a separate program per child gets expensive and hard to keep track of. If you choose the district-coordinated route, ask which reading and writing expectations the superintendent will look at, since public schools use the Delaware ELA/Literacy Standards.
Why it fits
How the packs fit a home with several grades
The curriculum is organized by grade and skill, so each child gets their own level while you run one routine.
- Grammar packs for Grades 1 through 6 let each child practice sentences and punctuation at their level.
- Writing prompt packs run from Grade 1 sentence starters to Grade 6 editing tools.
- Phonics and word study grow from phonological awareness in Grade 1 to roots and prefixes in Grade 6.
- Six stories, from Daisy the Brave Little Duck to The Lighthouse Mystery, give you shared reading time.
- One purchase covers siblings in different grades, in a single-family or multi-family homeschool.
- Printable pages are easy to date and file if you keep your own learning records.
Getting started
A daily literacy routine for siblings
Here is one suggested routine of about an hour a day. Adjust the times to your children's ages.
- Pick each child's grade packsLook through the packs and choose a starting grade for each child. A child who reads above grade level can use the next grade's word study while keeping grammar at their own grade.
- Start together with a storyRead one of the six stories together, or let older children read alone while you read with the younger one. The questions after each story turn reading time into comprehension practice.
- Split for grammar and word studyGive each child a page from their own grammar or phonics pack. Work with the youngest first, since first and second graders need more spoken support, then check the older child's page.
- Write three times a weekUse the writing prompt packs on alternating days. Older children edit their drafts with the Grade 6 editing tools, and younger ones say their sentence aloud before they write it down.
- Date samples before the deadlinesKeep one dated sample per child each week. When the September 30 enrollment statement and July 31 attendance report come around, you file online, and your samples show what the year looked like.
What to buy
Full curriculum or a single grade pack
With two or more children in Grades 1–6, the Grades 1–6 Literacy Skills Curriculum at $49.99 is the clear pick; its 24 parts cost $95.76 separately. With one child, a single grade pack may be enough: the Grade 1 ELA Pack is $12.99, and the Grade 3 and Grade 5 ELA Packs are $13.99 each. Those packs add a vocabulary trainer or a second story for that grade. If a child is new to English, the ESL Newcomer Curriculum Bundle ($79.99, $159.91 separately) teaches everyday English, grammar and vocabulary from the start.
Honest limits
What this curriculum is not
It is not a Delaware curriculum and contains no Delaware standards codes or state reading lists. It is not approved by the Department of Education or any district, so if you use the district-coordinated option, check with the superintendent first. The packs give practice; if your child cannot read yet, an early reading program may need to come first. In a multi-family homeschool where one parent teaches other families' children, message Teach Lessons about licence use before buying. Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value; there are no cash refunds.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does it meet Delaware's homeschool or ELA requirements?
It is not aligned to, approved by or endorsed by Delaware. The sources we checked list no required subjects for single-family or multi-family homeschools. The district-coordinated option requires the same subjects as public schools, which use the Delaware ELA/Literacy Standards, so ask your superintendent. Check current law with the state or a homeschool legal resource.
Do my children have to take a state test?
The sources we used describe no standardized testing requirement and no teacher qualification for any of Delaware's homeschool options. The reading stories and grade packs still give you a sense of progress from week to week, and dated samples help you compare fall and spring work.
Which homeschool option should we pick?
That is your family's decision, and Teach Lessons cannot advise on it. The curriculum works the same way under each option. Read the current rules from the Department of Education or a homeschool legal resource before you file your enrollment statement by September 30, and keep a copy of what you submit.
Is it enough for a full year of English?
It covers grammar, writing and word study for each grade plus six stories, which gives you a steady practice base. Most families add library books and read-alouds for wider reading, since the curriculum is practice material rather than a full literature program. A weekly library visit fills that gap at no cost.
Can our homeschool co-op share one copy?
The licence is for your own teaching. If you teach children from other families in a multi-family homeschool or co-op, send Teach Lessons a short message before buying so the use is covered. Please do not post the files on a website, a group chat or a shared drive where others can download them.
How fast can we start?
Right away. The download link comes by email after purchase, and the files stay in your customer account under Orders. Print the first week for each child and save the rest. Nothing ships, so you can begin the next school day, and you can reprint any page later.
