Accounting and Economics Units for Georgia High School Business Classes

Georgia business, CTAE and economics teachers who need ready units on bookkeeping and markets can start with the Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle. It holds nine units, from journal entries, the income statement and the balance sheet to supply and demand, market structures and the business cycle. It is a starter set of units for Grades 10–12, not a complete Georgia course.

Quick answer

The Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle ($109.99) gives Georgia high school teachers nine units: journal entries, the income statement, inventory and the balance sheet, cost accounting, business math with percentages, the marketing mix, market structures, supply and demand, and the business cycle. It gives a CTAE business pathway or an economics strand ready lessons. It is not a full course, it does not cover Georgia's financial literacy requirement on its own, and it is not matched to Georgia's course standards.

The real problem

Business and economics in Georgia: what the course map asks of you

High school economics in Georgia sits in two places at once. On the social studies side, graduation typically includes Personal Finance and Economics as a half unit alongside World History, United States History and American Government. SB 220 (2022, O.C.G.A. 20-2-149.4) adds that every student takes at least a half-credit financial literacy course in grade 11 or 12, starting with the 2024–25 school year, which makes the Class of 2028 the first graduating class it applies to. On the career side, Georgia's Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) system groups courses into career clusters with career pathways, and business and finance pathways need accounting and market content that a general economics text barely touches. A teacher assigned an introductory business or accounting class often inherits a course name, a set of standards and very little material. Building lessons on debits and credits, a readable income statement or a supply and demand curve from scratch takes weekends. And because the half-credit economics course moves quickly, teachers there also want short, solid units on markets and the business cycle they can drop in without rewriting their whole plan.

Why it fits

Where the nine units help a Georgia teacher

The units split into an accounting half and a markets half, so you can use the part that matches your course.

  • Journal entries, the income statement and the balance sheet give a CTAE accounting class its core.
  • Cost accounting and costing fundamentals show students how a business prices what it sells.
  • Business Maths with the rule of three and percentages supports students weak in applied math.
  • Supply and demand and market structures fit the economics part of a half-unit course.
  • The business cycle unit gives seniors context for news about growth, recession and jobs.
  • The marketing mix unit suits an introductory business or entrepreneurship pathway course.

Getting started

Three ways to place the units in your year

These are suggestions. Check your own course standards and pathway before you fix the order.

  1. Accounting sequence for a CTAE classTeach journal entries first, then the income statement, then inventory and the balance sheet. The order follows how a set of books is built, so each unit uses the previous one.
  2. Add costing once the books make senseFollow with cost accounting and the business maths unit. Students apply percentages and the rule of three to real pricing questions after they understand where the numbers come from.
  3. Markets block for economicsIn a half-unit economics course, use supply and demand, market structures and the business cycle as a compact markets block of a few weeks, alongside your existing material.
  4. Marketing for introductory businessThe marketing mix unit works on its own as an opener for a business course or as a project unit near the end of a semester.
  5. Fill the personal finance sideFor the SB 220 financial literacy course, add dedicated personal finance lessons. This bundle teaches business accounting and economics, not budgeting, credit or saving for students.

What to buy

Which bundle fits your Georgia class

Pick the Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle ($109.99, $224.91 for the parts) if you teach accounting, business or the economics side of a course. If you are teaching the SB 220 financial literacy half credit, the Personal Finance Starter Bundle ($59.99) is closer: it opens a course and covers money values, SMART financial goals, handling money and debt, and percentages and interest. CTAE teachers running work-based learning or advisory can add the Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle ($99.99), with résumés, interviews and workplace communication. The Everyday & Financial Math Bundle ($49.99) adds percentage, interest and business math practice.

Honest limits

Honest limits for Georgia teachers

These nine units are general high school accounting and economics material. They are not written for Georgia, carry no Georgia course or CTAE standards codes, and are not a full course or a graduation course by themselves. Check them against your Georgia course standards and pathway, and add Georgia examples, current data and your own assessments. The licence covers your own teaching; for a department or school, send Teach Lessons a short message first. If the bundle is not a fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value, which is not a cash refund.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is this bundle aligned with Georgia's CTAE or economics standards?

No. It is not aligned with, approved for or endorsed under any Georgia course standards, CTAE pathway or the Georgia Department of Education. The topics are standard accounting and economics content, so they may overlap with your course, but you need to check that yourself against the standards for the course you teach.

Can it serve as the SB 220 financial literacy course?

Not on its own. SB 220 asks for at least a half-credit financial literacy course in grade 11 or 12, and this bundle focuses on business accounting and markets rather than personal money management. The Personal Finance Starter Bundle is the closer starting point, and your district decides what the course must include.

Is it enough for a full semester?

That depends on your class, so no promise here. Nine units give you a solid block of lessons, but pacing depends on your schedule, your students and what else your course must include. Most teachers use the bundle as the core of the accounting or markets part and add their own material around it.

Do students need accounting software?

No software is included or required by the units. The work is done with worksheets, slides and answer keys, on paper or in a digital classroom. If your school uses a spreadsheet program or accounting tool, you can add it, but the lessons do not depend on it.

Can I buy the units one by one?

Yes. Every part of the bundle is also sold on its own and is linked on the bundle page, so you can start with journal entries or supply and demand. Bought separately the nine units total $224.91, compared with $109.99 for the bundle. Starting with one unit is a fair way to test the format.

Can our CTAE department share one purchase?

The licence covers one teacher's own teaching. Sharing with a department or across a school is possible after a short message to Teach Lessons. Please ask before passing files on, and do not post them on a shared public site. One email before the semester starts is enough to ask.
