The real problem

Sixth grade at home in Clark County this year

Clark County School District started the 2026-27 year on Monday, August 10, 2026 with new bell times. Middle schools now run from 7:30 a.m. to 1:41 p.m., so if your sixth grader attends a CCSD middle school, the afternoon at home is longer than it used to be. Some parents want to use that time for steady practice rather than more screens. Others have decided to teach at home. Nevada's rules for that are short. Under NRS 388D.020 you file a written notice of intent to homeschool with the superintendent of the district where your child lives, which for most Las Vegas families is CCSD. The notice includes an educational plan, and under NRS 388D.050 that plan covers English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies including history, geography, economics and government, though not every subject has to be taught every year. Testing is not required by those sections. The hard part is the step from fractions to equations, which is where many sixth graders stall. Families need material that explains instead of only drilling. Check current homeschool law with the state or a homeschool legal resource before you file, since this is a summary and not legal advice.

Why it fits

What the bundle covers for a sixth grader

The six resources split into literacy practice and two math units. Here is how each piece helps at home.

  • Grade 6 Grammar Practice covers sentence types and parts of speech in short sessions after school.
  • Writing prompts come with editing tools, so your child revises a draft instead of stopping at one try.
  • Academic word study works on roots, prefixes and patterns that show up in middle school textbooks.
  • The Lighthouse Mystery gives a reading story with questions for a quiet afternoon or weekend.
  • Fractions Complete covers adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions, one operation at a time.
  • Terms and Equations moves from fraction work into the equations that seventh grade math will expect.

Getting started

A simple weekly rhythm for home

Treat this as a suggestion. Adjust the pace to your child and to whether school or home is the main classroom.

  1. Pick a fixed practice slotWith CCSD middle schools letting out at 1:41 p.m., an early afternoon slot is often free. Twenty to thirty minutes on most weekdays builds more than one long weekend session.
  2. Alternate literacy and math daysUse grammar, writing and word study on two days and fractions on two others. Keep a fifth day for the reading story or for finishing what ran over.
  3. Finish fractions before equationsWork through Fractions Complete first. Start Terms and Equations only when your child handles mixed fraction problems without help, since the equations unit builds on that confidence.
  4. Keep the work in one folderNevada law does not require testing for homeschoolers, but a folder of finished pages shows progress clearly and helps when you plan next year. Date each page.
  5. Add science and social studiesIf you homeschool, your educational plan also lists science and social studies. Choose those resources separately so the plan you describe matches what you actually teach.

What to buy

Choosing between the sixth grade options

For most families the 6th Grade Practice Bundle at $44.99 is the right start, since the six parts cost $64.94 when bought one by one. If your child only needs reading and writing practice, the Grade 6 ELA Pack ($10.99) has the four literacy packs without the math units. A strong math student who is ready to move on can use the Algebra Foundations Bundle ($59.99, parts $79.96), with expressions, equations and inequalities, real numbers and ratio. The Middle School Math Core Units Bundle ($89.99) is written for Grades 7–9 and fits better next year.

Honest limits

Limits to know before buying

The bundle is written for any state and has no Nevada content. It is not built on the Nevada Academic Content Standards, so check it against the NVACS ELA and math standards or your CCSD teacher's expectations. It covers English and math only, so a homeschool plan needs separate science and social studies. You print the pages and guide the sessions. The licence is for your own family; co-op or group use needs a short message to Teach Lessons first. Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value if it is not a fit.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does this match Nevada standards or count as an approved homeschool curriculum?

No. It is not aligned with the Nevada Academic Content Standards and is not approved by the state or CCSD. Nevada asks homeschool families for an educational plan, not for any particular publisher. Check that the bundle fits your plan and confirm current law with the state or a homeschool legal resource.

Can I list this in my notice of intent to homeschool?

You can describe it in your educational plan as part of your English and math work. The notice itself goes to the CCSD superintendent under NRS 388D.020. The bundle does not cover science or social studies, so list other materials for those. Keep a copy of what you file for your own records.

My child goes to a CCSD school. Is this too much on top of homework?

It does not have to be. Use a few pages a week to fill gaps, for example fractions if a test went badly. Every resource can be used on its own, so you never need to work through the whole bundle in order. Ask your child's teacher which topics are coming up.

Is there an answer key for parents?

The bundle is meant for parents and homeschool families as well as teachers. Before buying, open the product page: it links every one of the six parts, so you can see what each resource contains and which pages come with answers. If a page has no answers, working the problem alongside your child is a fine fallback.

What if my sixth grader is ahead in math?

Fractions Complete and Terms and Equations may go quickly. In that case look at the Algebra Foundations Bundle for expressions, equations and inequalities. Keep the literacy packs from this bundle, since writing and word study rarely run ahead at the same pace. Mixed progress like that is normal in sixth grade.

How soon can we start?

Right away. The download link comes by email after purchase and stays in your account under Orders. Print the first grammar pages and one fractions worksheet and you have tomorrow afternoon covered. Keep the remaining pages in the download so you can print them as you go, rather than printing the whole bundle at once.
