Questions worth asking at TPT's October 8 Town Hall

TPT has announced a Town Hall for sellers on October 8, 2026. These are the questions we think are worth bringing, so you leave with answers you can actually use.

TPT has announced a Town Hall for sellers on October 8, 2026, ahead of the switch from Premium Seller to Exclusive Seller on January 1, 2027. A live session is one of the few chances to hear the platform explain its own rules in its own words, so it pays to arrive with a written list rather than a vague sense of what you want to know.

Below are questions grouped by topic. They are not trick questions and they do not assume any particular answer. They are simply the gaps a seller would want filled before choosing between Exclusive and Basic by the December 31, 2026 deadline. Pick the ones that apply to your store, and write the answers down while they are fresh.

Teacher-author? Keep 70% of net revenue, with no fees and no exclusivity. Submit your resources here. It takes about five minutes.

What we already know from TPT's announcement

It helps to start from what TPT has already published, so you do not spend your question on something that is on the page. According to TPT, Exclusive Sellers receive a 77.5% payout, down from the 80% Premium Sellers receive today. There is a $0.15 fee per resource on orders under $3 and no transaction fee on orders over $3. The annual fee stays at $59.95. Exclusive also comes with marketing and analytics tools such as Search Analytics, Keyword Finder and promotional tools, plus possible inclusion in TPT-funded campaigns.

In exchange, Exclusive Sellers commit to selling TPT-eligible resources only on TPT. Basic Sellers pay a one-time $29 fee, receive 55% and pay $0.30 per resource, with no exclusivity. Premium Sellers who do nothing become Basic Sellers on January 1, 2027. All of this is on TPT's seller fees help page, and our summary of the Exclusive Seller change lays it out in one place.

Questions about what "eligible" covers

TPT defines what counts as an eligible resource, and that definition decides how far the commitment reaches. If anything in the published terms is unclear to you, the Town Hall is the place to ask. These are the questions we would bring:

  • Does the commitment cover free resources as well as paid ones?
  • How are bundles treated when some items in them are sold elsewhere?
  • Does selling on my own website count as selling elsewhere?
  • What about resources I sell directly to a school or district under a separate contract?
  • Are resources that I created before opting in treated differently from new ones?
  • If I co-authored a resource with someone who is not an Exclusive Seller, how does that work?

Questions about timing and changing tiers

The opt-in deadline is December 31, 2026, according to TPT. What sellers often want to know is what happens after that date if their plans change. Ask how long the commitment runs, whether you can move from Exclusive to Basic during the year, and what notice is needed. Ask how the $59.95 annual fee is handled if you switch partway through a year, and whether a Premium Seller who paid the fee recently sees any adjustment at conversion.

If you already sell the same resources somewhere else today, ask what TPT expects you to do with those listings before January 1, 2027 if you opt in. Knowing the expected steps and the timeline lets you plan the work instead of rushing it in late December.

Questions about the tools and the payout math

The marketing tools are part of what Exclusive offers, so it is fair to ask how they work in practice. Ask when Search Analytics and Keyword Finder become available, whether every Exclusive Seller gets the same access, and how stores are picked for TPT-funded campaigns.

Then bring your own numbers. On a $10 sale, the move from 80% to 77.5% is $0.25 less per sale. If your store sells 400 resources a year at around that price, that is 400 × $0.25 = $100 a year. Compare that with what Basic would pay you on the same sales, using TPT's published rates or our payout calculator, which shows TPT Basic, TPT Exclusive and TeachLessons side by side for prices from $1 to $50. Our article on break-even math for the $59.95 fee goes deeper on that comparison.

After the Town Hall

Write a short note the same day with each question and the answer you heard, and where you can, find the matching line in TPT's written terms. A spoken answer is useful context, but the written terms are what you agree to. If a point is still unclear, ask TPT support in writing and keep the reply.

Then make your decision with your own figures. If you choose Exclusive, honour the commitment you make. If you choose Basic, or you already sell elsewhere, a second channel can sit next to TPT. TeachLessons pays 70% of net revenue with no fees and no exclusivity, and you can read how the program works or submit your resources whenever you are ready.

TeachLessons is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Teachers Pay Teachers. All TPT details here are as TPT published them in October 2026, and the answers given at the Town Hall may add to them.

Key takeaway: Go into the October 8 Town Hall with written questions about eligibility, timing and tools, note the answers, and confirm them against TPT's written terms before the December 31, 2026 deadline.
