The real problem
What first graders need from math practice
First graders arrive with very different number experiences. Some count confidently past 100, others still skip numbers after 12 or recite without touching each object. Addition and subtraction usually start as counting on and counting back, and many children rely on fingers well into the year. Shapes seem easy, yet first graders often only recognize a triangle when it sits on its base. Practice at this age has to be short, visual and repetitive in a good way: the same kind of task with slightly different numbers, so children build fluency without needing to read long instructions. Worksheets with too much text stop non-readers cold, and pages that jump from counting to two-digit subtraction lose half the class. First grade teachers also need flexibility. A few children are ready for numbers to 100 in October while others still work within 20 in spring. Practice material should let you hand the right page to the right child without making anyone feel behind.
Why it fits
How the bundle serves a first grade class
The Grade 1 pack covers the core, and the rest of the bundle handles the wide spread of first grade readiness.
- The Grade 1 pack practices numbers, early operations and shapes, the three pillars of first grade math.
- The numbers 0–100 mission gives counting practice a game-like frame that young learners enjoy.
- Warm-ups for Grades 1–4 offer short daily number practice to open a math lesson.
- Grade 2 numbers to 100 is ready for first graders who move past the Grade 1 pages early.
- Printable pages let you send matching practice home for families who ask for it.
- Answer keys make checking a stack of first grade pages fast at the end of the day.
Getting started
Using the packs through the first grade year
A suggested sequence only. The bundle does not include a calendar; follow your own scope and sequence.
- Fall: counting and number senseStart with number pages from the Grade 1 pack and the numbers 0–100 mission. Watch for children who count without one-to-one matching and give them extra time with objects.
- Add daily warm-upsOpen math time with a short warm-up page a few times a week. Keep the format stable so first graders know what to do without reading instructions.
- Winter: addition and subtractionMove into the operations pages once number sense is secure. Encourage counting on and drawing pictures, and let fingers stay in play while fluency develops.
- Shapes as a change of paceUse the shape pages between operation blocks. Turn shapes on their sides and ask children to name them anyway, so recognition does not depend on orientation.
- Spring: stretch the ready onesGive students who are flying the Grade 2 numbers to 100 pages. Students who need more time stay with the Grade 1 pack without falling into a different routine.
What to buy
Grade 1 pack alone or the full bundle
If you teach first grade and only need practice for an average group, buying the Grade 1 pack alone is the cheapest choice. If your class is spread out, and most first grade classes are, the full Elementary Math Practice & Warm-Up Bundle at $34.99 gives you room in both directions; buying the eight parts would cost $50.92. The Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99) starts at Grade 3 and suits later years. Bundles for algebra, such as the Complete Algebra Bundle, are for middle and high school. TEACHMORE15 does not apply to bundles.
Honest limits
Things to know before you buy
This is practice material. It does not include lesson plans for teaching first grade math, manipulatives or a pacing guide, and it does not cover every first grade topic, such as time, money or measurement of length. Check the Grade 1 pack topics against your own requirements. Pages may include some written instructions, so model new page types first. The licence covers your own class; message Teach Lessons before sharing with your grade team. If it is not a fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is the Grade 1 pack aligned to Common Core first grade standards?
No alignment or endorsement is claimed. The pack is written for first grade and covers numbers, operations and shapes. Many first grade programs include those topics, but expectations differ by state, so compare the pack with your own standards before using it as your main practice source.
Can non-readers use the worksheets?
Many first graders cannot yet read instructions independently. Model each new page type with the class first, or read instructions aloud. Once children know a format, they can usually complete similar pages on their own. Pictures, number lines and shapes on the pages support children who are still learning to read, so pair new formats with a quick demonstration.
Does it include addition and subtraction to 20?
The Grade 1 pack covers numbers, operations and shapes. If you need a specific number range, such as facts within 20, check the product page for the details of the operations pages before you buy. The Grade 1 pack covers numbers, operations and shapes, which gives first graders practice with early addition and subtraction.
Is there anything for students who are ahead?
Yes. The bundle includes packs up to Grade 4, so a first grader ready for more can move to Grade 2 numbers to 100 or even Grade 3 place value without you buying anything else. That also helps with the opposite case: a student who is struggling can work through easier number pages from the numbers 0–100 mission while staying on the same routine as everyone else.
Can I send pages home as homework?
Yes, printing pages for your own students, including for homework, is within your own teaching use. Posting files online or sharing them with other teachers is not allowed without contacting Teach Lessons first. Send home only pages children have already practiced in class, so families see success rather than frustration.
How soon can I use it?
Immediately. You receive a download link by email after checkout, and the files remain in your customer account under Orders. You can print a week of pages the same evening. Keep a folder of extra copies for new students who join mid-year, since first grade classes often change in the fall.
