A Math Kit for Small Middle Schools Teaching Grades 5–9

If you are the only math teacher, or one of two, in a small middle school covering Grades 5–9, the Middle School Math Starter Bundle gives you four resources that span the whole range: the Growing Math Bundle teaching kit, Fractions Complete, Algebra Basics on expressions and compass and ruler constructions. You can reuse the kit across several grades and combined classes. It costs $54.99, against $77.96 for the parts.

Quick answer

The Middle School Math Starter Bundle ($54.99; $77.96 if the four parts are bought separately) suits small middle schools where one teacher covers Grades 5–9. It includes the Growing Math Bundle teaching kit for Grades 5–9, Fractions Complete for Years 6–7, Algebra Basics on expressions, and a compass and ruler constructions workbook for Grades 7–9. It supports several grades at once but is not a full-year course for any of them.

The real problem

Teaching every grade with a small budget

In a small middle school, the math department may be one person. You might teach fifth grade first period, eighth grade second, and a combined sixth and seventh class after lunch. Every grade has its own sequence, and there is no colleague down the hall teaching the same course to share materials with. Budgets are small too, so buying a separate program for each grade is rarely possible. What you need is material that stretches across grades. Some topics run through the whole middle school band: fractions get taught, then reviewed, then applied in algebra; expressions start in sixth grade and keep coming back; geometry appears at several levels. If you have good material on those threads, you can use it with more than one class, at different depths. Combined classes add another layer. A sixth and seventh grader can work on the same fraction topic with different expectations, but only if the resource has enough range. A small school teacher also needs things to run on their own, because while you help one grade, another is working independently.

Why it fits

Why the bundle stretches across a small school

The resources follow topics that run through middle school, so one purchase serves several of your classes.

  • The Growing Math Bundle teaching kit covers Grades 5–9, matching the full span a small school teacher handles.
  • Fractions Complete serves grade 6 first teaching and grade 7 review in the same school year.
  • Algebra Basics on expressions works with sixth graders and as review for older students before equations.
  • Compass constructions give Grades 7–9 a shared geometry unit that suits combined classes.
  • Topic-based workbooks let one grade work independently while you teach another.
  • One bundle at $54.99 costs less than buying separate grade-level materials for each class.

Getting started

Using one kit across your classes

A suggested way to share the bundle across grades. It includes no multi-grade schedule; plan it around your timetable.

  1. Map topics to gradesList which of your classes need fractions, expressions or constructions this year. Most small school teachers find at least two classes share each topic. Write it down.
  2. Teach shared topics togetherIn combined classes, teach one fraction or expressions lesson to everyone, then give each grade different workbook pages or a different number of problems. Adjust the load.
  3. Set up independent workPrepare workbook pages that one grade can do alone while you teach another. Fractions and expressions practice works well for this once the concept is taught.
  4. Use constructions as a shared unitRun the constructions workbook with grades 7–9 at once. Hands-on work in mixed-grade groups often helps older students consolidate while younger ones learn. Pair grades.
  5. Draw on the teaching kitUse the Growing Math Bundle teaching kit to fill gaps in each grade's sequence, and keep notes on which pages you used with which class.

What to buy

Buying for a small school

For a small school teacher covering several middle grades, the Middle School Math Starter Bundle at $54.99 is the clearest choice; the four parts cost $77.96 separately. If one of your classes is moving into serious algebra, the Complete Algebra Bundle ($129.99, parts $199.90) collects all 10 algebra workbooks for Grades 5–12 and can serve several grades over several years. If your school also has elementary grades, the Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99) covers Grades 3–5. TEACHMORE15 does not apply to bundles.

Honest limits

Limits for a small school setting

The bundle supports four topic areas across Grades 5–9. It is not a complete program for any grade and does not cover ratios, percentages, integers, equations, functions or statistics in depth. You will still need core material for each grade, and you should check everything against your school's requirements. Compasses and rulers are your own supplies. If more than one teacher at your school will use it, send Teach Lessons a short message first. If it does not fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is this kit aligned to standards for Grades 5–9?

No alignment or endorsement claim is made. The resources are written for Grades 5–9, with the fractions and constructions workbooks aimed at narrower bands. Small and private schools often have their own requirements, so compare the topics with what your school or state expects before relying on them.

Can one purchase cover all my grades?

For your own teaching, yes. If you personally teach Grades 5–9, you can use the bundle with all of your classes. If another teacher at your school will use it too, message Teach Lessons before buying to ask about team use. That message also clears up any questions before you plan the year.

Does it work in combined-grade classes?

Yes, for the topics it covers. Fractions, expressions and constructions can be taught to mixed grades, with different pages or expectations for each group. The teaching kit spans the full Grades 5–9 band, which helps. Older students can also act as helpers for younger ones during practice, which reinforces their own understanding.

Is it enough for a whole year of math?

No. It is a starter bundle of four resources. In a small school, it works best as a shared base for topics that run through several grades, while each grade's core sequence comes from other materials. Over a few years, though, the same resources keep serving new classes as students move up.

We are a private school. Does it meet accreditation requirements?

No claim is made about accreditation, credit or any private school requirement. It is teaching material written for Grades 5–9. Check your school's or accreditor's expectations yourself. Ask your administrator what documentation is needed if your school reports curriculum materials to an accreditor or board.

How do I get the files?

After checkout, the download link arrives by email and the files stay in your customer account under Orders, so you can download again at any time. Keeping a local copy organized by grade helps when you move between classes during the day and need the right pages quickly.
