Business Math Lessons for CTE Classes

Math · CTE business classes

CTE business teachers who need the math their students use in business courses can use the Everyday & Financial Math Bundle: a business maths unit built on the rule of three and percentages, a unit on percentages and interest with discounts, tax and simple interest, and a ratio, proportion and percentage unit. It is written for Grades 7–12 and works alongside your business content rather than replacing it.

Quick answer

For CTE business classes, the Everyday & Financial Math Bundle ($49.99, Grades 7–12) includes a business maths unit using the rule of three and percentages, a percentages and interest unit (discounts, tax, simple interest), and a ratio, proportion and percentage unit. The three units cost $69.97 separately, a saving of $19.98. It supports the math in business courses but is not a full business or CTE course.

The real problem

The math gap in business classrooms

CTE business teachers often find that the hardest part of a lesson on pricing, payroll or inventory is not the business idea but the arithmetic. A student understands markup in principle but cannot calculate a 30 percent markup on a cost. Another can find a discount but not the original price from a sale price. When an order needs to be scaled from one quantity to another, many students simply guess. These are skills from math class, but they arrive in the business room without the practice students need. Business teachers are usually not trained as math teachers, and their courses have little room for a long math review. Yet without the math, case studies and simulations turn into copying numbers from a model answer. What helps is focused material on exactly the calculations business uses most: percentages applied to prices and costs, proportional scaling with the rule of three, and simple interest on borrowing or saving. Ideally it uses business and everyday contexts, so students see the arithmetic as part of the job, not a detour into math class.

Why it fits

How the bundle fits a CTE business course

Each unit addresses a calculation business students use again and again.

  • The business maths unit uses the rule of three, a dependable method for scaling quantities and prices.
  • Percentage work on discounts and tax maps directly onto pricing and sales lessons.
  • Simple interest tasks support lessons on loans, financing and saving for a business.
  • The ratio, proportion and percentage unit rebuilds basics for students who arrive with gaps.
  • Grades 7–12 range lets you use the units in middle school career exploration or high school CTE.
  • As a bundle, the three units cost $19.98 less than buying them separately.

Getting started

Fitting the units into your business course

Suggestions for weaving the math into existing business lessons. The product does not set a schedule.

  1. Spot the math in your lessonsList your business lessons that need calculations, such as pricing, payroll, inventory or financing. Those are the points where the units help most. Mark each with the matching unit.
  2. Run a quick percentage checkGive a few short problems on markup, discount and tax. Students who struggle start with the ratio, proportion and percentage unit. Others go straight to the business maths unit.
  3. Teach the rule of threeUse the business maths unit to teach the rule of three before a lesson on ordering or scaling. Students then apply it to your business case.
  4. Link interest to financingUse the simple interest tasks when your course covers loans or startup costs. Have students compare what different financing would cost. Ask which option a small business owner should choose.
  5. Use math inside simulationsIn your business simulations or projects, require students to show their percentage and proportion work, using the methods from the units. Grade the reasoning as well as the result.

What to buy

What to buy for a CTE business class

The Everyday & Financial Math Bundle at $49.99 covers the main calculations business students need and saves $19.98 against the three units at $69.97. If students need short daily practice on basic algebra, the Algebra Warm-Ups & Bell Ringers Bundle ($29.99) works as a lesson opener for Grades 5–9. For a school that needs algebra across all grades, the Complete Algebra Bundle ($129.99) is a larger, separate purchase. TEACHMORE15 does not apply to these bundles.

Honest limits

What is outside its scope

These are math units, not business content. Accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship and other CTE topics are not covered, and the bundle is not a full CTE course or pathway. It covers percentages, discounts, tax, simple interest, ratio and the rule of three, not spreadsheets or financial statements. No alignment to CTE standards or any certification is claimed; check it against your program requirements. Sharing with other teachers needs a short message to Teach Lessons first. Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is the bundle aligned to CTE standards or industry certifications?

No alignment, endorsement or certification claim is made. Its three units, written for Grades 7–12, focus on the business calculations students use most. Check them against your CTE program requirements before building them into a pathway. Your CTE program coordinator can help you with that comparison.

Does it teach accounting or spreadsheets?

No. It covers percentages and interest, business maths with the rule of three, and ratio, proportion and percentage. No software or spreadsheet work is included. If your course uses spreadsheets, students can enter the percentage and interest problems from the units into whatever software your school already has, as an extension you design yourself.

What is the rule of three?

It is a method for solving proportion problems: if you know three values in a proportional relationship, you can find the fourth. In business it is useful for scaling orders, prices and quantities. The business maths unit uses it together with percentages, so students practice both methods side by side.

I teach business, not math. Will I manage?

The units focus on a small set of everyday calculations. Look at the previews on the product page to decide whether they suit your teaching style before buying. Working through the problems yourself before class helps you anticipate where students will hesitate and plan your explanations.

Can I buy only the business maths unit?

Yes. Every unit is sold separately. Together they cost $69.97; the bundle is $49.99. If your students already handle percentages and interest well, the single business maths unit may be enough for your course. If they arrive with gaps in ratio or percent, the bundle gives you all three units for $19.98 less than buying them separately.

What if it does not fit my course?

Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value. It is not a cash refund. Look at the unit previews on the product page before buying and compare them with the calculations your business course actually uses. Credit can go toward another product, such as the Algebra Warm-Ups & Bell Ringers Bundle.
