The real problem
Course-based middle grades, and what that means for you
Missouri's social studies standards, approved April 19, 2016 and in place since 2016–17, change shape after Grade 5. Up to Grade 5 they are written grade by grade. From Grade 6 through Grade 12 they are organized by course: American History, Geography, World History and Government. Which middle grade takes which course is a local decision, so two Missouri teachers with the same grade level can be teaching very different content. That matters when you shop. A product labeled Grade 7 history tells you very little in Missouri; what you need to know is which course it supports. World History is the heaviest lift of the three to build yourself. It spans thousands of years, every period needs readable texts and real sources, and students need repeated practice in comparing evidence and forming a judgment, rather than memorizing dates. Missouri also tests American History and Government with end-of-course assessments in high school, so the habits students build in middle school, such as reading a source closely and writing a short argument from it, carry into those later courses.
Why it fits
How the bundle fits a World History course
The bundle is a chronological world history sequence. These are the parts that do the most work in a Missouri World History classroom.
- Ancient Greece and Rome units cover daily life and political systems, a natural opening for the course.
- Middle Ages units on feudalism, the Black Death, knights and village life fill a long stretch of the year.
- Early modern units on the Reformation, exploration and absolutism connect Europe to the wider world.
- Industrialization, labor movements and the growth of democracy prepare students for later civics and government work.
- WWII, the Cold War and European integration give the course a clear endpoint in the twentieth century.
- Source analysis and historical judgment training runs through the year, with rubrics for grading written work.
Getting started
One way to lay out the year
These blocks are suggestions. Your district map and calendar decide the actual pacing.
- Weeks one and two: skills firstBegin with the source analysis and critical thinking material so that students know how to question a text or image before the first period unit. Return to these tasks whenever a unit includes a primary source.
- Fall: the ancient worldTeach ancient Greece and Rome with their daily life and political systems. The creative writing tasks give students a chance to write from a historical perspective, which helps weaker readers stay with the material.
- Late fall into winter: Middle AgesFeudalism, the Black Death and village and city life make a long, connected block. The differentiated worksheets let you keep the whole class on the same topic at different reading levels.
- Spring: early modern to industrialMove through the Reformation, exploration, absolutism and then industrialization and labor movements. This is a good place for a longer source-based writing task graded with the included rubric.
- End of year: the twentieth centuryClose with WWII, the Cold War and European integration. If your district adds required topics at this point, slot your own lessons between these units.
What to buy
Which history product matches your Missouri course
Choose the XXL History Teaching Bundle ($249.90) when you teach World History and want a whole year with rubrics and source work already in place. World History Complete – Middle School costs $149.90 ($189.90 with the Teach-Life-Balance course) and is organized around historical thinking and broad periods from early civilizations to global interactions, a good choice if your course leans more global than European. The World History Complete Curriculum Bundle ($249.90) adds topics such as decolonization, indigenous peoples and women's history. For single topics or sub days, the Middle School History Units Bundle is $74.99 instead of $123.91 for its nine parts.
Honest limits
Limits worth knowing before you buy
This bundle is not written for Missouri. It has no Missouri history, no American History course content and no Missouri Learning Standards codes, and its periods lean toward European history. Compare it with your district's World History map and the course standards before you commit to it. You add any state or district required topics yourself, and you handle printing. Use is for your own classes; for department-wide use, message Teach Lessons first. If it is not right for your course, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value. Cash refunds are not offered.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does the bundle match Missouri's World History course standards?
It is not aligned to, endorsed by or approved for the Missouri Learning Standards, and the store makes no such claim. It is a general world history sequence. Lay the unit list next to your course standards and your district's map, mark the gaps, and plan to fill them with your own lessons.
I teach American History in Grade 8. Should I buy this?
Probably not as your main resource. The bundle has no American History course units. The Middle School History Units Bundle includes a Famous U.S. Presidents resource and an industrialization unit, but neither product is an American History course. Buy for the course you actually teach.
Is it really a full year?
Its description covers all major periods for a full year of history in Grades 6–9. How many weeks each period takes in your room depends on your schedule and how much you add. Treat the pacing above as a starting point, not a promise of exact days.
Can I edit the worksheets?
Yes. Every unit includes editable files along with the informational texts, differentiated worksheets, source tasks, answer keys and assessment rubrics. That makes it easier to adjust a reading level, add a Missouri or local example, or change a writing prompt so it matches the way your department grades written work.
Does it help students prepare for high school end-of-course tests?
It does not prepare for any specific test. Missouri's high school end-of-course assessments are in American History and Government, and this bundle covers neither course. What it does build is source analysis and short written argument, skills students carry into every later history and government class they take.
Can my whole department use one purchase?
The licence covers your own teaching. Use across a team or school is possible after a short message to Teach Lessons, so ask before you share the files with colleagues in your building. Redistribution, resale and posting the files on a public site or shared drive are not allowed under any licence.
