Quick answer

For a long-term substitute in a Nevada elementary classroom, the Elementary Sub Plans & Emergency Lessons Bundle ($69.99) is the practical starting point. It combines 50 no-prep substitute lessons, daily ELA task cards and morning work, Grade 3 and Grade 4 math warm-up worksheets, math warm-up activities for Grades 1–4, and a soccer escape room. It fills school days; it does not replace the school's curriculum or the plans of the teacher you are covering for.

The real problem

When the sub is the only teacher the class has

Nevada has allowed large districts such as Clark and Washoe, during states of emergency, to hire substitutes who hold only a high school diploma. In practice that means some people walk into an elementary room with no teaching background, and some of those rooms have no regular teacher at all. A one-day sub follows a folder. A long-term sub covering a vacancy often finds no folder, no pacing calendar and a class that has already seen several adults come and go. The hard part is not one lesson. It is the fourth week, when the emergency plans have run out, the students know the routine is loose, and the position is still open. Children in Grades 1 and 2 need short, predictable tasks. Students in Grades 4 and 5 notice quickly when work is filler. A long-term sub needs a daily rhythm that holds: a morning task as students come in, a warm-up before math, real reading and writing practice, and lessons that stand on their own when the school's materials are missing or locked away. Building that from scratch every night is not realistic for someone also learning the building, the bell schedule and every student's name.

Why it fits

What is in the bundle for a vacancy

Six resources, each meant for days when the regular teacher is not there.

  • The 50 no-prep substitute lessons give you a stand-alone lesson for each day the plans run thin.
  • Daily ELA task cards and morning work give students a settled, familiar start as they come in.
  • Literacy center tasks from the ELA set keep small groups busy while you listen to individual readers.
  • Grade 3 and Grade 4 math warm-up worksheets give upper-elementary classes a short, focused start to math.
  • Math warm-up activities for Grades 1–4 cover younger classes without separate planning on your part.
  • Soccer Escape Room – The Missing Tournament works as a Friday reward or a low-energy afternoon.

Getting started

A daily routine for a long-term assignment

This is one workable shape for a school day built from the bundle. Fit it around whatever the school still expects you to teach.

  1. Open with morning workPut an ELA task card or morning work page on each desk before students arrive. It gives them a known first job and gives you time for attendance and messages from the office.
  2. Warm up before mathUse a warm-up that matches the grade: the Grade 3 or Grade 4 worksheets for older classes, the Grades 1–4 activities for younger ones. About ten minutes is usually enough to settle the room.
  3. Teach one planned lessonPick a lesson from the 50 no-prep substitute lessons whenever the school has nothing scheduled for that block. Read it the day before so you can teach it with confidence.
  4. Run literacy centersSet up centers from the ELA task cards so groups rotate while you listen to individual readers. Your notes also tell the next teacher, or the principal, what students can do.
  5. Save the escape roomKeep the soccer escape room for a day with an assembly, a fire drill or simply low energy. It turns review into a team task and keeps the class working together.

What to buy

The full sub bundle or a narrower pack?

If you are the long-term sub, the Elementary Sub Plans & Emergency Lessons Bundle at $69.99 covers the most ground; bought separately, the six parts cost $112.94. If the vacancy stretches into a full semester and the room has no literacy materials, add the Grades 1–6 Literacy Skills Curriculum ($49.99, parts $95.76) for grammar, writing and phonics by grade. For a Grades 1–4 class that mainly needs math practice, the Elementary Math Practice & Warm-Up Bundle ($34.99, parts $50.92) may be enough. A school that wants history covered in a Grades 1–4 vacancy can look at the Elementary History Curriculum ($169.99).

Honest limits

Before you buy: what to know

The bundle was not written for Nevada and has no Nevada standards codes; check it against what the school and district expect. It does not replace the school's adopted curriculum, and the principal or grade-level team decides what a long-term sub must teach. You print, copy and organize the materials yourself, and it is not a semester course. The licence is for your own teaching; if the school wants to use it in several classrooms, it should message Teach Lessons first. If it is not what you needed, exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value, not a cash refund.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does this match Nevada's standards or my district's curriculum?

No claim of that kind is made. The bundle is not aligned to or approved by Nevada, Clark County, Washoe County or any other district, and it carries no standard codes. It is general elementary practice plus stand-alone lessons. Ask the school what students must cover during your assignment, then use the bundle around that.

I am a substitute without a teaching degree. Can I use this?

Yes. The resources are no-prep, which means the lesson, the student pages and the answers are already there. You read ahead, print and teach. The bundle will not teach you classroom management, but having a clear task for every part of the day removes one of the main reasons rooms get loud.

Should I buy it, or should the school?

Either can. If you buy it, it is licensed for your own teaching, so you can keep using it on your next assignment. If the school buys it to use across several classrooms, it should contact Teach Lessons first about team use. Questions about school purchasing can also go to Teach Lessons before buying.

Which grades does it actually fit?

The set runs from Grade 1 to Grade 5. The 50 substitute lessons and the ELA task cards are written for elementary classrooms in general, the warm-up activities cover Grades 1–4, and the two warm-up worksheet sets target Grade 3 and Grade 4. With a Grade 5 class you will lean more on the substitute lessons and the ELA work.

Can I use it on my first day?

Yes. The download link arrives by email right after purchase, and the files stay under Orders in your account. If you get the call the night before, buy it, print one morning work page and one lesson, and you walk in with a plan for the whole first day.

Is it enough for a whole semester?

It covers many days, but it is not a semester curriculum. Over a long vacancy, use it for routines, warm-ups and stand-alone days, and ask the school for its reading and math materials for core instruction. If those are missing, the Grades 1–6 Literacy Skills Curriculum is a sensible second purchase.
