The real problem
What Grade 7 World Studies asks you to cover
Under the 2018 Ohio's Learning Standards for Social Studies, Grade 6 is Regions and People of the Eastern Hemisphere, Grade 7 is World Studies from 750 B.C. to 1600 A.D.: Ancient Greece to the First Global Age, and Grade 8 is U.S. Studies from 1492 to 1877. That Grade 7 span is huge: more than two thousand years, several continents, and a jump from Athens to the age of exploration within one school year. The state updated the K–8 standards in July 2026, with districts beginning implementation in 2027–2028. In the new version, Grade 6 covers early civilizations of the Eastern Hemisphere such as India, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia, and Grade 7 covers Greece and Rome, feudalism and transitions, and the first global age. The broad shape of Grade 7 holds, but district maps and pacing guides will be revised. Teachers therefore need content that can be cut and reordered, treats classical, medieval and early modern history in reasonable depth, and keeps source work and historical argument at the center so students are not just memorizing names and dates.
Why it fits
Product strands set against Ohio's middle grades
A rough placement guide. You confirm the fit against the standards and your district's pacing guide.
- Early civilizations and ancient societies can support a Grade 6 Eastern Hemisphere or early civilizations unit.
- Classical civilizations and belief systems suit the opening weeks of Grade 7, which begin with ancient Greece.
- Medieval worlds and global connections give you material for the feudalism and transitions period.
- Early modern periods and cultural exchange lead into the first global age that closes the Grade 7 span.
- Timeline and chronological thinking tasks help students hold a two-thousand-year course together.
- Source analysis and historical argument tasks keep the course about evidence rather than dates alone.
Getting started
Pacing Grade 7 from Greece to 1600
One possible order for the year; adjust it to your district's pacing guide and to the 2027–2028 changes.
- Set up a timeline in week oneUse the chronological thinking materials to build a class timeline from 750 B.C. to 1600 A.D. Every later unit adds to it, which keeps the whole span visible all year.
- Teach the classical worldSpend the first quarter on classical civilizations and belief systems. Pair source readings with maps so students see how ideas, trade and empires spread across regions.
- Move into medieval worldsUse the medieval worlds and global connections strand for the middle of the year. For more depth on feudal life, add the Black Death and peasant life units from the Middle School History Units Bundle.
- End with the first global ageClose Grade 7 with early modern periods and cultural exchange and global interactions. Stop where your district's course ends rather than continuing into later periods the strand may touch.
- Fill the Ohio gapsNote any topics your pacing guide names that the units do not cover, and plan short lessons for them. Ohio-specific connections and Grade 8 U.S. studies are always your own work.
What to buy
One sequence or a bigger history library
For Grade 7 World Studies, World History Complete – Middle School at $149.90 is the core buy; the $189.90 version adds the Teach-Life-Balance course, sold alone at $89.90. If you want named topics such as ancient Greece and Rome, feudalism, the Black Death, the Reformation and exploration in one place, the XXL History Teaching Bundle ($249.90, Grades 6–9) lists them period by period. The World History Complete Curriculum Bundle ($249.90) suits a school that runs world history into Grades 9 and 10. For single topics, the Middle School History Units Bundle ($74.99, parts $123.91) is the low-cost option.

What you add for an Ohio classroom
This is a general world history sequence, not an Ohio product. It is not aligned with Ohio's Learning Standards for Social Studies, in the 2018 or the 2026 version, has no standards codes, and has no Ohio or U.S. history. Check the units against your grade's standards and pacing guide yourself, and plan the 2027–2028 changes with your district. The license is for your own teaching; a social studies department should message Teach Lessons before sharing. A product that does not fit can be exchanged within 7 days for store credit of equal value; there is no cash refund.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is this aligned with Ohio's Grade 7 social studies standards?
No. It is not aligned with, endorsed under or written for Ohio's Learning Standards for Social Studies, and it has no Ohio standards codes. Its classical, medieval and early modern strands deal with eras that Grade 7 World Studies also spans, but coverage and depth differ, so compare the units with the standards and your district's pacing guide before relying on them.
Will it still work after the 2026 standards take effect?
The updated K–8 standards keep Greece, Rome, feudalism and the first global age in Grade 7 and place early civilizations such as India, Egypt, China and Mesopotamia in Grade 6. Because the units can be used one at a time, you can follow your district's new map once it is set for 2027–2028. Check the final district plan before you reorder anything.
Does it cover Grade 8 U.S. Studies?
No. Ohio's Grade 8 course covers U.S. history from 1492 to 1877, and this product is world history only. A Grade 8 teacher could use the early modern and global interactions strands as background on exploration, but the American content of the course has to come from other material.
How does it handle mixed-ability Grade 7 classes?
The worksheets are differentiated, and the product is described as suitable for mixed-ability classrooms. Visual sources, maps and timelines give students who struggle with dense text another way in. For students who need more challenge, the historical argument tasks ask them to build and defend a claim from evidence.
Can I use it on a snow day?
Ohio districts must have online instruction plans that can cover up to three days of closures, including hazardous weather. Because the materials work in print and digital classrooms, a short unit or review activity can be posted for a closure day. Check your district's online instruction plan for what counts and how work is collected.
Is there a discount if I also need a Grade 6 product?
Code TEACHMORE15 gives 15% off when you buy two or more Complete Curriculum packages, for example World History Complete together with Geography Complete – Middle School. It does not apply to bundles or single units. If a Grade 6 colleague wants to use your copy instead, send Teach Lessons a short message about team use first.
