Literacy Intervention Worksheets by Grade Level, Grades 1–6
If you run reading groups or tutoring and need practice pages sorted by grade, the Grades 1–6 Literacy Skills Curriculum gives you a grammar pack, a writing prompt pack and a phonics or word study pack for each grade from 1 to 6, plus six reading comprehension stories. That lets you pull Grade 2 phonics for a fourth grader without hunting through mixed files.
See packs for Grades 1–6The Grades 1–6 Literacy Skills Curriculum costs $49.99 for 24 packs; the parts cost $95.76 separately. The real problem
The real problem in an intervention room: six levels in one hour
An interventionist or tutor rarely teaches a grade. You teach a skill gap. In one morning you might see a first grader still blending sounds, a group of fourth graders who decode well but write run-on sentences, and a sixth grader who reads fluently but stalls on words with prefixes and roots. Classroom materials assume everyone in the room is at the same level, so they are either too hard for the student who is behind or too babyish for an older student who needs earlier skills. Finding the right page often means opening four different resources, each organized its own way. Time is the other pressure. Groups are short, and every minute spent searching for a page or explaining a new format is lost practice. What helps is a set where the same kinds of practice exist at every grade: grammar, writing, phonics and word study, and reading with questions. Then you can match a student to the level they need while keeping the routine the same, which matters a great deal for students who already find school reading hard.
Why it fits
How the packs fit an intervention schedule
The set is organized by grade and by skill, which is the way most intervention groups are formed.
- Phonics packs for each grade run from phonological awareness in Grade 1 to roots and prefixes in Grade 6.
- Grammar packs move from sentences, nouns and verbs in Grades 1–2 to sentence types in Grade 6.
- Writing prompt packs per grade include story starters early on and editing tools by Grade 6.
- Six reading comprehension stories, such as The Lighthouse Mystery, give students a text with questions.
- Because every grade has the same pack types, an older student can work on earlier skills without a new routine.
- Short practice packs suit pull-out groups and tutoring sessions better than long full-class units.
Getting started
Setting it up for your groups
Here is one practical way to organize the 24 packs. Your school's screening data and your own judgment decide where each student starts.
- Sort students by skill, not gradeUse the screening or assessment your school already has to see whether each student's gap is decoding, grammar, writing or comprehension. The packs do not include a diagnostic, so this step is yours.
- Map each group to a grade packAssign each group the grade level that matches its skill, which may be below the students' enrolled grade. A fifth grader working on word patterns might start in the Grade 3 phonics pack.
- Keep a fixed session patternA suggested routine: a few minutes of phonics or word study, then grammar or writing practice, and a reading story once a week. Keeping the order steady saves time in short groups.
- Move up when they are readyWhen a student handles a pack well, shift them to the next grade's pack of the same type. Because the format is familiar, the move feels like progress, not a new start.
- Share pages with classroom teachersTell the student's classroom teacher which pack you are using. If the classroom teacher wants to use the files in their room too, contact Teach Lessons about team use first.
What to buy
The full set or one grade
Choose the Grades 1–6 Literacy Skills Curriculum ($49.99, parts $95.76) when your caseload spans several grades, which is the case for most interventionists and tutors. If you only work with one grade, a single grade pack is cheaper and adds a vocabulary trainer in some grades: the Grade 1 ELA Pack is $12.99 (parts $17.95), the Grade 3 ELA Pack $13.99 (parts $19.95) and the Grade 5 ELA Pack $13.99 (parts $19.95). If the students you support are new to English rather than behind in reading, the ESL Newcomer Curriculum Bundle ($79.99, parts $159.91) is the better match.
Honest limits
Where the packs stop
These are practice packs, not a research-validated intervention program, and they do not contain screeners, diagnostic tests or progress-monitoring tools. They are not written for any state's ELA standards or any district's intervention framework, so check them against the standards and the plans your school uses, including any requirements in a student's IEP or reading plan. You choose the level and track progress yourself. The licence covers your own groups; for use by a whole intervention team, send a short message to Teach Lessons first. If the set does not suit you, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is this aligned with my state's ELA standards or our intervention program?
No. The packs are not aligned with, approved by or endorsed by any state, district or intervention framework, and they contain no state-specific content. They are grade-level practice in grammar, writing, phonics and reading. Compare them with your state standards and your school's intervention plan, and use them where they fit what a student needs.
Can I use it as a structured reading intervention?
It can supply practice within your intervention, but it is not a scripted, sequenced intervention program with its own built-in assessments. Most interventionists use it alongside whatever screening and core approach their school has already chosen, then picking the grade pack that matches each student's gap.
Is every grade covered equally?
Grammar, writing prompts and phonics or word study each have a pack for every grade from 1 to 6. The six reading comprehension stories are spread across the grades rather than one per grade; for example, Grade 2 has no story in this set. Check the parts list on the product page.
Will older students feel the pages are too young for them?
That depends on the student and how you frame it. A useful approach is to call the pack by its skill, such as word patterns, rather than by grade. The later packs, like Grade 6 academic word study, can also serve older students working on vocabulary.
Can I use these with tutoring clients?
You can use them in your own teaching, which includes your own tutoring sessions. You may not resell the files, post them publicly or hand them out as a product. If you run a tutoring center with several tutors, message Teach Lessons first about using it across the team.
What happens right after I buy?
You get a download link by email straight away, and the files stay in your customer account under Orders. If after looking through them you find they do not fit your groups, you have 7 days to exchange the purchase for store credit of equal value.
