Utah High School Career Readiness: 8 Units on Jobs, Money and Work

If you teach career readiness, advisory or a work-based learning class in a Utah high school, the Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle gives you eight ready units, from résumés and interviews to money, teamwork and AI at work, for $99.99. It does not count as any Utah course on its own; it supplies lessons you can fit into the course your school already offers.

Quick answer

For Utah high school teachers who need ready lessons on job skills, the Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle ($99.99) is a sensible start. Its eight units cover handling money and avoiding debt, cover letters, résumés and interviews, professional email, presenting, customer conversations, time management, teamwork and conflict, and AI in the world of work. It is not a Utah CTE course and does not replace General Financial Literacy.

The real problem

Where career skills sit in a Utah schedule

Utah students need 1.0 unit from one CTE area to graduate, and the areas are concrete fields such as Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Health Science, Computer Science and Information Technology, or Manufacturing. General Financial Literacy (0.5 unit) is its own graduation requirement, in place since the Class of 2008, and Digital Studies (0.5 unit) is required too. What that list does not include is a home for the soft skills every pathway assumes: writing a résumé, answering an interview question, sending a professional email, handling a frustrated customer. Those lessons tend to land in advisory periods, work-based learning or the first weeks of a CTE class, and the teacher building them may be new to lesson planning. Utah has routes such as the associate educator license and the LEA-specific educator license, which a district or charter requests and which is valid only there, so some CTE teachers arrive from industry with deep trade knowledge and few ready lessons. Whoever teaches, the need is the same: short, practical units that fit into a course built for something else, without writing them from scratch.

Why it fits

What the eight units add to a Utah CTE or advisory class

The units teach general workplace skills, so they slot into almost any Utah pathway without competing with its technical content.

  • Application Training covers cover letter, résumé and interview, useful before work-based learning placements.
  • Professional email and business letter lessons give students a model before they contact an employer.
  • Customer conversations and conflicts suit students heading into Health Science, food service or retail work.
  • Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work connects AI to jobs in any CTE area.
  • Financial Literacy – Handling Money and Debt Prevention can reinforce, not replace, General Financial Literacy.
  • Time management, teamwork and conflict units fit advisory periods and the first weeks of a pathway.

Getting started

One way to spread the units across a semester

A suggested order for a course or an advisory period that runs all semester. Shorten or skip units your students already handle well.

  1. Weeks 1–2: time management and teamworkOpen with Time Management and Study Methods and Conflict and Team Management. They set up routines for group work that the rest of the course depends on.
  2. Before any placement: applicationsTeach Application Training before job shadows or work-based learning. Students leave with a draft cover letter and résumé and some real practice answering typical interview questions.
  3. Mid-semester: communication at workUse the professional email unit and the customer conversations unit together, with role plays tied to your own pathway, for example a patient, a client or a supplier.
  4. Presenting as a checkpointThe presenting unit works as a mid-point assessment: each student gives a short talk about the career area they are exploring in your program, with classmates asking questions.
  5. Close with money and AIFinish with the debt prevention unit and Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work, linking first paychecks and changing jobs to students' plans after graduation.

What to buy

The full bundle or a narrower purchase

The Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle at $99.99 covers the broadest set of job skills; the eight units are $199.92 separately. If the gap at your school is money, the Personal Finance Starter Bundle ($59.99, parts $78.94) has a course launch lesson, SMART goals, a money mindset quiz, debt prevention and interest, which suits a teacher starting a finance unit. Business and finance pathway teachers may prefer the Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle ($109.99, parts $224.91) for journal entries, the income statement and supply and demand. For a single lesson on AI and jobs, Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work is $24.99 on its own.

Honest limits

Limits for Utah teachers

This bundle is not a Utah CTE course, carries no Utah standards codes and is not approved by the Utah State Board of Education, so it does not earn a student CTE, General Financial Literacy or Digital Studies credit by itself. Check each unit against your course description and your district's expectations. Some unit titles mention apprentices or training, so adapt the examples to your students. Employer contacts and placements are up to you. Team use needs a short message to Teach Lessons first, and an unsuitable purchase can be exchanged within 7 days for store credit, not a cash refund.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does this bundle satisfy a Utah CTE or graduation requirement?

No. It is not aligned to, approved by or endorsed by the Utah State Board of Education, and it is not a CTE course. Credit for the 1.0 CTE unit, General Financial Literacy or Digital Studies comes from the courses your school offers. You can use these units inside such a course after checking them against its course description.

Can I use the finance unit in General Financial Literacy?

As a supplement, yes, if your course description allows it. Financial Literacy – Handling Money and Debt Prevention is one unit, not a semester course. If finance is the main need, the Personal Finance Starter Bundle adds more money lessons, but neither product is written to Utah's course standards, so compare before you plan.

Is it suitable for students who are not college-bound?

Yes. The units focus on first jobs and training places: applications, workplace communication, customer conversations, time management and teamwork. Students planning on college benefit too, since interview practice and professional email apply to internships and campus jobs. The examples are general, so add situations from your own pathway.

Our CTE department wants to share it. Is that allowed?

Use across a department or school is possible, but send Teach Lessons a short message before buying so team use can be agreed. Until then the licence covers your own teaching only. Do not upload the files to a shared site that other staff or the public can open.

Do students need devices for these units?

The units are worksheets, activities and slides that work in print or on screens. No software, accounts or devices come with the bundle. If you want students to type résumés or send practice emails, use whatever devices and email setup your school already has, within its usual rules.

How soon can I use it in class?

Right after purchase. The download link comes by email and stays in your customer account under Orders, so you can print the first lesson for the next day. Because the materials include slides and answer keys, a colleague covering your period can follow along without much preparation.
