A Houston fourth grader can practice reading, writing and math at home with the 4th Grade Practice Bundle: ten resources for $69.99, including two full math units on fractions and on area and perimeter. It suits Houston ISD families who want extra practice after school and Texas homeschoolers who want ready literacy and math material. It does not cover Texas history or science.
Shop the 4th grade bundleThe 4th Grade Practice Bundle costs $69.99 and gives Houston families ten Grade 4 resources: a grammar pack, writing prompts, phonics and word study, the reading story The Mystery of the Missing Map, a vocabulary trainer, a place value to decimals pack, math warm-ups, the English Made Easy parent guide, and full units on Fractions with Visual Models and Area & Perimeter. The real problem
Fourth grade in Houston: what school covers and what home can add
Fourth grade asks children to read longer texts closely, write organized paragraphs and handle fractions, decimals and measurement, all in the same year. In Houston ISD, kindergarten through fifth grade use the state's Bluebonnet Learning reading curriculum in 2026–27, which the district adopted in June 2026 and which teaches literature, history and culture. Some parents find the reading program looks different from what they remember, and fourth grade math homework often needs an adult nearby. Fourth grade social studies in Texas is the history of the state, from early beginnings to the present under the current TEKS. Houston families can add a trip: the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, which tells the story of the final battle of the Texas Revolution, runs field trip programs for 4th grade, such as Visualizing the Runaway Scrape. For homeschoolers the rules are short. Texas treats homeschools as private schools, describes no state notice or filing, and expects a written curriculum taught in a bona fide manner, covering reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics and good citizenship. Testing and record rules could not be confirmed, so check current law with the state or a homeschool legal resource; this is not legal advice.
Why it fits
What the ten resources do for a fourth grader
The bundle leans on the parts of Grade 4 where practice at home makes the most difference.
- Fractions with Visual Models teaches equal parts, numerator and denominator, comparing and fair shares as a unit.
- Area & Perimeter covers unit squares, formulas, compound shapes and garden problems from start to finish.
- Math Adventure Grade 4 practices place value up to decimals, the bridge into fractions.
- The Grade 4 Grammar Pack and phonics and word study give written grammar and word-pattern practice.
- The Mystery of the Missing Map gives a reading story with questions for close reading at home.
- English Made Easy shows parents how to support Grade 4 English, with a workbook alongside.
Getting started
A fourth grade week at the kitchen table
One possible rhythm. After-school families can trim each day to a single short task.
- Monday: warm-up and fractionsStart with a Grade 4 math warm-up, then one lesson from Fractions with Visual Models. Drawing the fraction before writing it keeps the idea concrete.
- Tuesday: grammar and writingDo one page of the grammar pack, then a writing prompt that uses the same skill. Read the paragraph aloud together and fix one sentence.
- Wednesday: place value to decimalsUse Math Adventure Grade 4 for place value and decimals. If a step is confusing, go back one page and talk it through before trying the new task again.
- Thursday: word study and readingWork on phonics and word study, then read part of The Mystery of the Missing Map. Save its questions for the end of the week.
- Friday: area and a Texas linkDo an Area & Perimeter lesson, measuring a real room or yard. Families studying Texas history can plan a San Jacinto visit for another day.
What to buy
The right fourth grade purchase
Choose the 4th Grade Practice Bundle at $69.99 when you want both literacy practice and two complete math units; separately the ten parts cost $117.90. If your child only needs reading and writing practice, the Grade 4 ELA Pack ($13.99, parts $19.95) is the smaller option. The Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99, parts $99.96) adds Numbers to 1000 and a test prep toolkit, but repeats the fractions and area units already in this bundle, so most families need only one. The Grades 3–5 Test Prep Bundle ($64.99, parts $104.95) is for the weeks before spring state tests.
Honest limits
What it does not cover
The bundle is not written for Texas, has no TEKS codes, no Texas history unit and no Bluebonnet Learning material, and Houston ISD has not reviewed it. It covers literacy and math practice plus two math units, not a full fourth grade year, and there is no social studies or science. Texas homeschoolers should check whether it fits their written curriculum, and good citizenship needs other material. You print pages and provide rulers and paper. Co-op use needs a message to Teach Lessons first. If it is not a fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value, never cash.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is the bundle aligned to the Grade 4 TEKS?
No. It is not aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and has not been approved by the Texas Education Agency or Houston ISD. It covers common fourth grade skills in grammar, writing, reading, fractions, decimals and area. Compare the parts list with the Grade 4 TEKS yourself if alignment matters for your plans.
Can it be part of a Texas homeschool's written curriculum?
Texas expects homeschools to use a written curriculum covering reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics and good citizenship. This bundle includes written material for reading, grammar, math and word study on patterns and sounds; spelling may need extra material. Whether your full curriculum meets the law is your decision; check with the state or a homeschool legal resource, and add material for good citizenship.
My child's school uses Bluebonnet Learning. Will this be confusing?
The bundle does not use or copy Bluebonnet Learning. It is separate practice in grammar, writing, word study and reading. Many parents use it for short extra practice and leave the school's reading program to the classroom. If your child's teacher sends home specific tasks, do those first.
Does it include Texas history for fourth grade?
No. There is no Texas history, social studies or science content in this bundle. For Texas history, families often use other resources, and the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site runs field trip programs for 4th grade. Check the site's current offerings and whether they accept homeschool groups.
Do we need any devices or special supplies?
No software or device is needed beyond what you use to download and print. The Area & Perimeter unit works well with a ruler or measuring tape you already have at home. No supplies are included with the download. Printing at home or at a library is all most families need.
What if it is not right for my child?
Read the ten parts on the product page and compare them with your child's current level. If the bundle still does not fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value. There is no cash refund. The credit can go toward the Grade 3 or Grade 5 bundle instead.
