For an Idaho family homeschooling a third grader, the 3rd Grade Practice Bundle covers the two daily subjects most families teach first: literacy and math. It has ten resources, including grammar, creative writing, phonics, a reading story, math practice, warm-ups and a full place value unit. Idaho asks for no filing or testing, so science and social studies are yours to add.

The real problem
Idaho gives you freedom, so the structure is on you
Idaho Code 33-202 asks parents of children ages 7 through 16 to provide instruction in subjects commonly and usually taught in the public schools. Beyond that, the state asks very little as of 2026–27. You do not file a notice to begin or continue homeschooling, though a written notice is recommended when you withdraw a child from public school. No records are mandated, no tests are required, no district approves your plan and parents need no particular qualifications. HSLDA recommends covering language arts, math, science and social studies. That freedom also means nobody checks whether third grade covered what you meant it to. Reading longer texts, writing in full paragraphs and working with place value to 1000 all come up this year, and a gap in any of them is hard to spot without some structure. If you compare with what public schools teach, note that Idaho's math standards were listed as revised and adopted on August 13, 2026, pending in a September 2026 proposed rule. Check the final version with the State Board of Education. This page summarizes the law; it is not legal advice, so check current rules with the state or a homeschool legal resource.
Why it fits
What the bundle covers for a third grader at home
The ten parts cover literacy practice and a solid math strand. These are the pieces most useful to an Idaho family setting its own pace.
- Grade 3 Grammar Mastery covers nouns, pronouns, sentences and punctuation in short sessions at the kitchen table.
- Creative writing prompts and story starters give a daily writing habit without inventing topics.
- Phonics and word patterns practice helps a child who still stumbles on longer words.
- Numbers to 1000 teaches place value, comparing, number lines and word problems as a complete unit.
- The Math Made Easy parent guide with workbook shows a parent how to support Grade 3 math.
- Grade 3 math warm-ups give a short start to the day that shows what your child remembers.
Getting started
A weekly rhythm for an Idaho homeschool
No schedule is required in Idaho. This is just one way families can use the bundle across a week.
- Open each morning with math warm-upsA short warm-up sheet shows what stuck from the day before. If your child struggles, spend that day on the related practice pack instead of moving ahead.
- Teach Numbers to 1000 as the math spineWork through the unit over several weeks. Place value and number lines come first; word problems later. Use the Math Made Easy guide if you want help explaining a step.
- Rotate grammar, phonics and writingPick one literacy pack per day. Grammar Monday, phonics Tuesday and a writing prompt Wednesday is a simple pattern that keeps every skill moving without long sessions.
- Read the story slowlyUse the Grade 3 reading comprehension story over a few days. Read aloud together first, then let your child answer the questions on their own so you can see what they understood.
- Add science and social studiesThe bundle has no science or social studies. Plan those from library books, nature walks, or other materials so your year covers the subjects commonly taught.
What to buy
Bundle, ELA pack or math units
Most families should start with the 3rd Grade Practice Bundle at $59.99, which costs $95.90 if the ten parts are bought separately. If you only want literacy, the Grade 3 ELA Pack ($13.99) has grammar, creative writing, phonics, the reading story and the vocabulary trainer. For a stronger math focus, the Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99) has four full units: Numbers to 1000, fractions with visual models, area and perimeter, and a test prep toolkit. Idaho does not require testing, but families who choose a test for their own records could use the Grades 3–5 Test Prep Bundle ($64.99, parts $104.95).
Honest limits
Limits to keep in mind
The bundle is practice packs plus one math unit. It is not a complete third grade curriculum and has no science, social studies, art or music. It was not written for Idaho and is not aligned with Idaho Content Standards. Whether it fits your homeschool is your decision; check current law with the state or a homeschool legal resource. Printing and paper are yours. The licence covers your own family; co-ops should write to Teach Lessons before sharing. If it does not fit, you can trade it for store credit of equal value within 7 days. There are no cash refunds.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does this bundle meet Idaho's homeschool requirements?
No product can promise that, and this bundle is not approved by Idaho or aligned with Idaho Content Standards. Idaho asks parents to teach subjects commonly taught in public schools, with no notice, records or testing required. The bundle covers literacy and math only. Check current law with the state or a homeschool legal resource and plan the remaining subjects yourself.
Do I need to report what we use to the district?
Idaho does not require a notice to start or continue homeschooling and mandates no records. A written notice is recommended if you withdraw your child from public school. Many families keep simple records anyway, for example in case they later re-enroll, and the bundle's finished worksheets are easy to file by month.
Is it enough for a whole year?
It is practice for every literacy skill plus a solid math strand, not a full-year scope and sequence. Families often use it as the daily core for reading, writing and math and add other materials as the year goes on, such as library books for reading and separate science and social studies lessons.
What if my child is ahead or behind?
You can mix in packs from other grades. The 2nd and 4th Grade Practice Bundles and the ELA packs follow the same grade-level pattern, so a child can work below or above grade in one subject while staying on level in another. Idaho sets no grade-level pacing for homeschoolers.
Can I use an ESA or scholarship to pay?
Teach Lessons does not claim to be an approved vendor of any ESA or scholarship program. If you use any program to pay for educational materials, check its rules and its vendor list before buying, and keep the order confirmation email in case you need to show what you bought.
How do I receive it?
As a digital download right after purchase. The link comes by email and is also in your customer account under Orders, so you can download it again later. Print what you need for the week or work from a tablet or computer if your child prefers that.
