Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work
The real problem
Career readiness in Kentucky: lots of requirements, little ready material
Kentucky runs career and technical education through the KDE Office of Career and Technical Education, with four-course state-approved career pathways across CTE program areas. Alongside that sits a newer requirement: students entering grade 9 on or after July 1, 2025 must take a one-credit financial literacy course under HB 342 (2025), which amended KRS 158.1411. The related standards are the Kentucky Academic Standards for Career Studies and Financial Literacy. Graduation also asks for performance-based competency in technology. In practice, the job-skills part of all this often lands on teachers who already have a full load: an advisory period, a work-based learning coordinator, a CTE teacher filling the gap before students go out on placements. They need lessons on writing a résumé, handling an interview, sending a professional email or dealing with an angry customer, and those are rarely in a textbook. Ask your district which course carries the financial literacy credit and whether any career lessons count toward a pathway, since those decisions are made locally within state rules.
Why it fits
Where the eight units fit Kentucky classes
The units stand alone, so you can run them as a sequence or drop single units into an existing course.
- Application Training covers cover letters, résumés and interviews before students apply for jobs or placements.
- Business Letter and Professional Email gives students practice writing to employers, not friends.
- Job-related Communication handles customer conversations and conflicts, useful before work-based learning.
- Time Management and Study Methods suits ninth grade advisory as well as older students.
- Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work adds a current topic linked to technology competency discussions.
- Financial Literacy – Handling Money and Debt Prevention gives a money unit alongside your financial literacy course.
Getting started
A one-semester advisory outline
This is one suggested order for a Kentucky Grade 11 or 12 advisory or career class. Adapt it to your schedule.
- Start with time and teamworkOpen with Time Management and Study Methods, then Conflict and Team Management. Students practice skills they need right away in school, which makes the later job units feel less abstract.
- Build the applicationTeach Application Training next. By the end of the unit, each student has a draft résumé and a cover letter and has practiced common interview answers with a partner and with you.
- Write and speak professionallyFollow with professional email and the presenting unit. Have students email a mock employer and give a short talk, so both skills get real practice and feedback.
- Handle the customerUse Job-related Communication before any work-based learning placement begins. Role plays of customer complaints prepare students for the first difficult conversation at work and give shy students a safe place to practice.
- Money and the future of workClose with Handling Money and Debt Prevention and Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work. Students connect a first paycheck and changing jobs to their own plans.
What to buy
Which package makes sense
Choose the Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle at $99.99 if you teach job skills across a semester; the eight units cost $199.92 separately. Teaching the required financial literacy credit instead? The Personal Finance Starter Bundle at $59.99 opens that course with money values, SMART goals, debt and interest. Business pathway teachers may prefer the Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle at $109.99 (parts $224.91). If you only need one lesson on AI at work, Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work is sold alone for $24.99, though it is already part of this bundle.
Honest limits
Know the limits
This bundle is not written for Kentucky. It has no Kentucky content, no standards codes and no approval from KDE, OCTE or any district, and it is not one of the state-approved career pathway courses. It is also not a one-credit financial literacy course. Check it against your own course requirements. Students need their own devices for any typing; none are included. The license covers your classes; departments should message Teach Lessons first. Within 7 days you can exchange it for store credit of equal value, not a cash refund.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does this count toward Kentucky's financial literacy credit or a CTE pathway?
No such claim is made. The bundle is not aligned with, approved under or endorsed by the Kentucky Academic Standards for Career Studies and Financial Literacy, OCTE or any district. It includes one money unit, not a one-credit course. Your district decides what counts, so check with your counselor or CTE coordinator before relying on it.
Which students does the financial literacy requirement apply to?
According to the state's standards site, the one-credit course is required for students entering grade 9 on or after July 1, 2025, under HB 342 (2025), which amended KRS 158.1411. Confirm with your school which course carries the credit and how it is scheduled. Rules can be updated by the legislature.
Can I use it in advisory instead of a full course?
Yes, that is a common fit. Each unit stands alone, so an advisory teacher can teach one unit per month or pick only the units students need, such as résumés before senior spring. You do not have to teach the full eight in order. Many advisors start with time management.
Does it work for students not going to college?
It works for any student heading toward a first job, an apprenticeship or a training place after high school. Customer conversations, time management and teamwork matter in every workplace. Students planning on college still need résumés, professional email skills and money management, so the same units serve both groups in one Kentucky classroom.
Is any technology required?
No software or accounts come with the bundle, and none are required by the product descriptions. Use whatever devices your school already has if students type résumés or emails; otherwise the worksheets work on paper, and the slides can be projected from any classroom computer.
Can our CTE department buy one copy?
The standard license covers one teacher's own teaching. For several teachers in a Kentucky CTE department, send Teach Lessons a short message before buying and say how many people will use the units. Posting files publicly, sharing them outside your school or reselling them is not allowed.
