See the Grade 3 bundleFor a Maryland family teaching Grade 3 at home, the 3rd Grade Practice Bundle ($59.99) handles much of English and math. It includes grammar, creative writing, phonics and word patterns, a reading comprehension story, a vocabulary trainer, two math practice packs, Grade 3 math warm-ups, the Math Made Easy parent guide with workbook, and the Numbers to 1000 unit. It is practice packs plus one math unit, not a full-year curriculum, and not reviewed by MSDE or any county.

The real problem
Maryland's portfolio route, seen from a Grade 3 kitchen table
Maryland families who homeschool file a Notice of Consent with the local superintendent on the MSDE form. The regulation, COMAR 13A.10.01, calls for filing 15 days before starting, and each year before the school year the family confirms its intent to continue. Instruction has to cover math, English, social studies, science, art, music, health and physical education, for long enough to carry out the program. Families then choose oversight. Under the portfolio option, the parent keeps a portfolio of instructional and reading materials and samples of the child's work, and the local school system may review it up to three times a year. Alternatively, a church umbrella, a church-exempt school umbrella or a state-approved school umbrella supervises instead of the school system. No standardized testing requirement is described. In practice, a third-grade parent needs two things: lessons that keep reading, writing and math moving every week, and a steady stream of finished, dated work that shows what was taught when the reviewer or umbrella asks. When place value reaches the thousands and writing grows from sentences into short stories, many parents start looking for more structure.
Why it fits
How the bundle helps a Maryland Grade 3 home program
The bundle covers two of the eight subjects in depth and leaves clear room for the rest.
- Grammar, phonics and word pattern packs give short daily English practice for a third grader.
- Creative writing prompts with structure help a child move from sentences to short stories.
- Numbers to 1000 unit teaches place value, comparing, ordering and number lines with word problems.
- Math warm-ups and two practice packs keep arithmetic sharp between bigger lessons.
- Math Made Easy parent guide explains how to support Grade 3 math if it is not your strength.
- Finished worksheets and writing pieces, dated by week, make clear portfolio samples.
Getting started
A sample week for English and math
This is a suggestion for the English and math part of your week. Add the other six subjects around it.
- Monday: warm up and new mathStart with a Grade 3 math warm-up, then a lesson from the Numbers to 1000 unit. Follow with one grammar page. Keep the morning to about an hour so attention lasts.
- Tuesday: phonics and practiceDo a phonics and word patterns page, then a page from one of the math practice packs. Use the Math Made Easy guide if a topic needs a different explanation.
- Wednesday: writing dayChoose one creative writing prompt. Help your child plan with the structure provided, then let them draft. Date the finished piece and put it in the portfolio folder.
- Thursday: reading and vocabularyRead the comprehension story in parts across several weeks and answer the questions together. Add the vocabulary trainer for ten minutes and a library book of your child's choice.
- Friday: review and fileUse a warm-up as a short review, revisit anything shaky, and file the week's best pages. A portfolio built week by week is easier than one assembled the night before a review.
What to buy
This bundle, a smaller pack, or more math
Buy the 3rd Grade Practice Bundle at $59.99 if you want English and math practice for Grade 3 from one place; the ten parts cost $95.90 bought separately. If you only need English, the Grade 3 ELA Pack ($13.99, parts $19.95) has the five literacy resources, all of which are already inside the bundle, so do not buy both. For more math, the Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99, parts $99.96) adds fractions, area and perimeter and a test prep toolkit, but it repeats Numbers to 1000. The Grades 3–5 Test Prep Bundle ($64.99, parts $104.95) is for families who want test practice by choice.
Honest limits
Read this before you rely on it
This bundle is not written for Maryland and has no connection to MSDE, your county or any umbrella. It covers English and math only, so social studies, science, art, music, health and physical education need other materials. It is practice plus one math unit, not a complete Grade 3 course. Check current homeschool law with MSDE, your local school system or a homeschool legal resource; this page is not legal advice. The licence covers your own family. If it does not fit, exchange it within 7 days for store credit, not cash.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does this count as an approved Maryland homeschool curriculum?
No. Maryland does not approve it, and neither MSDE nor any county or umbrella has reviewed it. It is English and math practice you can use within your own program. How your overall instruction is judged is between you and your reviewer or umbrella, so check current rules with your local school system or a homeschool legal resource.
Will the worksheets work in my portfolio?
Under the portfolio option, you keep instructional materials and samples of your child's work, and the school system may review it up to three times a year. Dated worksheets and writing pieces from this bundle are natural samples. Ask your local school system or umbrella what they want to see, since practices vary.
What other subjects do I still need?
Maryland lists math, English, social studies, science, art, music, health and physical education. This bundle covers English and math. For the other six you need separate materials; our store has elementary history and science bundles, and many families add library books, nature walks and local programs.
Is there a standardized test my third grader must take?
No standardized testing requirement is described for Maryland homeschoolers. The Grades 3–5 Test Prep Bundle is there if you want test practice by choice, for example before a return to school, but it is not required by the homeschool rules described here. Check current rules with your local school system if you are unsure.
My child is ahead in reading but behind in math. Does this work?
Yes, with some mixing. Use the Grade 3 literacy packs as challenge where needed, and give extra time to the Numbers to 1000 unit and the math practice packs. The Math Made Easy guide helps you explain the same idea a second way, and the warm-ups give quick daily repetition without a long lesson.
How do I get the bundle?
It downloads right after checkout. The link arrives by email, and all ten resources stay in your customer account under Orders. Print one week at a time to save paper and keep the portfolio in order. Nothing ships by mail, so you can begin the same day.
