Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work
The real problem
Who teaches the skills between the pathways
Alaska's department runs its CTE work under the heading CTE: Learning that Works for Alaska, built on CTE Programs of Study, Career Clusters and the Alaska CTE Perkins State Plan. The state also lists CTE Employability Standards, dating from 2006. A cluster course teaches the trade itself. Somebody still has to teach the cover letter, the interview, the email to a supervisor and what to say when a customer is upset. That job often lands with an advisory teacher or a CTE teacher who already has a full load. Money belongs here too. Alaska has no standalone personal finance graduation requirement, and some finance standards are embedded in other courses, so a student can finish high school without a dedicated lesson on debt unless a teacher adds one. The practical problem is material. Employability lessons need realistic scenarios, tasks students can actually finish in class, and enough structure that a teacher outside business education can run them with confidence. They also need room for local work, because the jobs students apply for in one Alaska community can look nothing like those in the next town, and a lesson built around a big-city office will not land with every class.
Why it fits
What the eight units bring to an Alaska course
Each unit covers one skill that employers expect and that cluster courses rarely have time for.
- Application Training covers the cover letter, résumé and interview as one connected unit.
- Business Letter and Professional Email teaches writing for a first supervisor or training place.
- Customer conversations and conflicts prepare students for retail, food service and other customer-facing jobs.
- Handling Money and Debt Prevention adds a debt unit where no finance course is required.
- Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work shows how AI is changing the jobs students will apply for.
- Conflict and Team Management prepares students for work-based learning placements and group projects.
Getting started
A suggested sequence for one semester
Treat this as a starting point and adjust it to your school calendar and your students' placements.
- Open with time and teamworkStart with Time Management and Study Methods, then Conflict and Team Management. Students practice habits they will use for the rest of the course and in any placement.
- Build the applicationTeach Application Training: cover letter, résumé and interview. Ask students to bring a real local job posting so their documents answer an actual opening, not an invented one.
- Practice workplace communicationMove to professional email, then customer conversations and conflicts, then presenting. Role-plays work well here, and a local employer as guest makes them more realistic.
- Handle money and debtTeach Financial Literacy – Handling Money and Debt Prevention once students are thinking about a first paycheck. Connect it to the jobs they researched earlier in the semester.
- Look ahead at AI and workClose with Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work. Students discuss which tasks in their chosen field are changing and what skills will still matter.
What to buy
Which career or finance set to buy
For a career readiness, advisory or work-based learning course, the Career Readiness Curriculum Bundle at $99.99 is the strongest choice; bought separately, the eight units cost $199.92. If your gap is money rather than jobs, the Personal Finance Starter Bundle ($59.99) offers six finance lessons and units, including the same debt unit. Teachers building a business pathway may want the Accounting & Economics Fundamentals Bundle ($109.99). Digitalisation and AI in the World of Work is also sold alone for $24.99, but it is already inside this bundle.
Honest limits
Honest limits
These units are not written for Alaska. They carry no CTE Employability Standards codes, are not part of any Alaska CTE program of study and lead to no certification. They contain no local employer or industry information, so you add the jobs and workplaces your students know. Eight units make a strong course core but you will add your own material for a full year. Before colleagues use it, send Teach Lessons a short note. If the bundle is not a fit, exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value, not cash.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is this aligned with Alaska's CTE Employability Standards?
No. The bundle is not aligned with, reviewed under or approved for the CTE Employability Standards, a CTE program of study or any Alaska district. Many topics, such as communication and teamwork, sit close to what employability lessons usually include, but check each unit against the state's documents and your district's course description before relying on it.
Can it serve as a CTE program of study?
No. Programs of study are set through the state's CTE structure and your district, and they include technical courses this bundle does not provide. Use these units for the general workplace skills inside an advisory, career readiness or work-based learning course, or as a strand within an existing pathway.
Does it cover personal finance?
One unit, Financial Literacy – Handling Money and Debt Prevention. Alaska has no standalone personal finance graduation requirement and embeds some finance standards in other courses, so this unit can fill a gap. For more finance, the Personal Finance Starter Bundle adds goals, money mindset, and percentages and interest.
Will it work in a small school where I teach several grades together?
The units are written for Grades 9–12, so one class can include several grade levels. Skills such as email, presenting and interviews suit students of any age in that range. Adjust expectations by grade, for example asking older students for a fuller résumé and a longer presentation.
How do I make it feel local?
Bring in current job postings from your own area, invite a local employer or community organization to run mock interviews, and use workplaces students know as role-play settings. The units supply the structure and tasks; your community supplies the examples that make students take them seriously.
How fast can I start?
Immediately after purchase. The download link comes by email and stays in your customer account under Orders, so you can download again later. Worksheets can be printed or used on screen. Questions about team use or school purchasing can go to Teach Lessons before you buy.
