See the Grade 3 bundleFor a third grader in Honolulu, the 3rd Grade Practice Bundle ($59.99) combines five literacy resources with a math strand: two practice packs, Grade 3 warm-ups, the Math Made Easy guide with workbook, and the Numbers to 1000 unit on place value, comparing and number lines. Use it as after-school practice for an HIDOE student or as part of a homeschool plan. It is practice material, not a full curriculum, and has no Hawaii-specific content.

The real problem
Grade 3 in Honolulu: tests, records and the odd closure day
For Hawaii homeschool families, Grade 3 is one of the years when a standardized test is required. Under the Hawaii homeschool rules based on Hawaii Rev. Stat. § 302A-1132(a)(5), families file a notice of intent, Form 4140 or a letter, with the principal of the public school their child would otherwise attend, keep a record of the planned curriculum, and send an annual progress report. Students take a standardized test in grades 3, 5, 8 and 10. Hawaii does not list required subjects, but the curriculum must be structured, cumulative and sequential, and the record should show dates, weekly hours, subjects, how mastery is judged and a list of materials. That is a lot to put together for an eight-year-old. Families with a child in an HIDOE school have different concerns: steady practice at home, and something useful on days off. On March 13, 2026, Oʻahu public schools closed ahead of severe weather, and a printed stack of pages works when the routine breaks. Grade 3 itself is where multi-digit numbers, place value and longer reading passages all arrive at once, so short daily practice in both reading and math pays off.
Why it fits
How the ten resources help a Honolulu third grader
The bundle mixes short literacy pages with a real math unit, so you can plan weeks of practice from one download.
- Numbers to 1000 teaches place value, comparing and ordering, number lines and word problems.
- Grade 3 math warm-ups give a five-minute start that builds number fluency.
- Math Made Easy is a parent guide with workbook for adults supporting Grade 3 math.
- Grade 3 Reading Comprehension, Mia and the Moonlight Garden, builds longer-passage reading.
- Grade 3 Grammar Mastery practices nouns, pronouns, sentences and punctuation.
- A materials list for Hawaii's planned curriculum record is easy to write from the ten titles.
Getting started
A sample month with the Grade 3 bundle
Suggested pacing for one month. Repeat the pattern with new pages, and slow down wherever your child needs it.
- Week 1: parent guide and warm-upsRead Math Made Easy before you begin, then start each day with a Grade 3 warm-up. You will learn quickly where your child's number sense is strong and where it wobbles.
- Week 2: Numbers to 1000Work through place value and comparing numbers in the Numbers to 1000 unit. Number lines drawn on paper or chalk on the driveway make three-digit numbers easier to picture.
- Week 3: reading and grammarRead Mia and the Moonlight Garden in short parts and answer the questions. Pair it with a Grammar Mastery page on two or three days.
- Week 4: writing and phonicsUse the creative writing prompts for a short story, and the phonics and word patterns kit for spelling. Finish with one of the math practice packs to review the month.
- Every week: keep a logWrite the date, time spent and pages completed. Homeschool families can use it for the planned curriculum record and the annual progress report; others can share it with a teacher.
What to buy
Choosing what to buy for Grade 3
The 3rd Grade Practice Bundle at $59.99 is the strongest all-round choice; the ten parts bought separately cost $95.90. If you only need literacy, the Grade 3 ELA Pack ($13.99) has the five reading and writing resources. For a math-heavy year, the Elementary Math Units Bundle ($69.99) adds fractions, area and perimeter and a math test prep toolkit, though it repeats Numbers to 1000. The Grades 3–5 Test Prep Bundle ($64.99) has ELA and math toolkits for the weeks before a test, and shares the Grade 3 warm-ups with this bundle, so check for overlap first.
Honest limits
What it does not do
The bundle is not written for Hawaii. It has no Hawaiʻi Common Core codes and no Hawaii content, and it covers reading, writing and math only, not social studies, science, art, music, health or physical education. It is not the standardized test Hawaii requires for homeschoolers in Grade 3, and using it does not replace your notice, records or progress report. Check current rules with HIDOE, your school's principal or a homeschool legal resource. You print the pages. Within 7 days, you can exchange it for store credit of equal value if it is not right.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is it aligned to Hawaiʻi Common Core or approved by HIDOE?
No. Hawaii uses Hawaiʻi Common Core for ELA and math, and this bundle is not aligned to it or approved by HIDOE or the Board of Education. It is general Grade 3 practice. Compare it with what your child's school or your own planned curriculum covers, and use it for the skills that match.
Will it prepare my homeschooler for the Grade 3 standardized test?
It gives practice in reading, grammar, writing and place value, which are useful before any test, but it is not built for a specific test and makes no promise about results. Find out which test you plan to use and what it covers, then choose pages that match.
Can I list it in my planned curriculum record?
Hawaii's homeschool rules ask for a record of planned curriculum including a list of materials. You can list the bundle and its parts there. Whether your full plan is structured, cumulative and sequential is for you to judge. Check current requirements with HIDOE or a homeschool legal resource; this is not legal advice.
Why does it include a parent guide?
Math Made Easy is written for the adult helping at home. Many parents learned Grade 3 math a different way, and the guide with its workbook gives you a way in before you sit down with your child. It is part of the ten resources, not a separate purchase.
We already own the Elementary Math Units Bundle. Is there overlap?
Yes. Both include Numbers to 1000. The Grade 3 bundle adds literacy and Grade 3 practice packs, while the math units bundle adds fractions, area and perimeter and a test prep toolkit. If you own one, check the parts lists before buying the other, so you do not pay twice for the same unit.
Can I use it for siblings in the same house?
Yes, within your own family's teaching. The files stay in your customer account under Orders, so you can print new copies for a younger child later. Sharing them with other families, a co-op or posting them online is not covered; for group use, message Teach Lessons first.
