The real problem

Physical science is two subjects in one course

Middle school physical science puts physics and chemistry in one course, often taught by a teacher whose background is mainly in one of them. A biology-trained teacher may be comfortable with matter and atoms and less sure about motion graphs, forces or circuits. Physics topics also need careful scaffolding at this age: students can calculate speed long before they understand what a distance-time graph is telling them. Mississippi's standards add a planning step. The state department calls its pre-K through Grade 12 standards the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards, but the subject-specific science titles and revision years have not been verified for this page, and neither has the grade where your district teaches physical science. Before buying, ask your district or the Mississippi Department of Education for the current science framework for your grade, then mark which objectives are physics and which are chemistry. That split tells you how much ready physics material you need. A good physics block for Grades 6–9 should move from what students can see, like motion and floating objects, toward ideas they cannot see directly, like energy transfer and electric current, with plenty of graphs and diagrams along the way.

Why it fits

How the six units cover the physics side

Every unit is also sold alone, so you can check each topic before deciding on the full bundle.

  • Describing Motion & Interpreting Graphs gives students the graph-reading skills every later unit relies on.
  • Forces & Interactions introduces Newton's laws at a level suited to middle school students.
  • Work, Energy & Power builds on forces and leads into energy transfer and efficiency.
  • Pressure, Buoyancy & Fluids explains why objects float or sink, a topic students can test themselves.
  • Electric Circuits gives a ready unit to teachers less confident with current and circuits.
  • Light, Refraction & Lenses finishes the physics strand with optics students meet in everyday life.

Getting started

Suggested physics sequence

Use this order as a starting point and adjust it to your district's pacing guide and where chemistry sits in your year.

  1. Split the framework: physics vs. chemistryWith your Mississippi science framework for the grade in hand, list the physics objectives. Match them to the six units and note any objective that needs other material.
  2. Begin with motion and graphsTeach Describing Motion & Interpreting Graphs first. Students who can read a motion graph handle forces and energy far more easily, so give this unit the time it needs.
  3. Forces, then work and energyFollow with Forces & Interactions and then Work, Energy & Power. Teaching them back to back helps students see energy as the result of forces acting over a distance.
  4. Fluids as a hands-on breakPressure, Buoyancy & Fluids suits simple floating and sinking demonstrations with materials your school already has. It also works well before a holiday or testing break.
  5. Circuits and light to finishEnd with Electric Circuits and Light, Refraction & Lenses. If your chemistry units come in the spring, place these two before them so the physics strand stays together.

What to buy

Which physics product fits your course

The Middle School Physical Science Units Bundle at $89.99 (parts $149.94) suits teachers who need the physics topics of a physical science course. If you want more units across grade bands, the Physics Complete Curriculum Bundle has 15 ready-to-teach units for Grades 5–12 at $129.99. For a shorter start with measurement, motion and forces, the Physics Foundations Bundle costs $59.99. Physics Complete – Middle School starts at $149.90 with 20+ resources; if you also buy Chemistry Complete – Middle School for the chemistry half, code TEACHMORE15 takes 15% off the two Complete Curriculum packages. The code does not apply to bundles.

Honest limits

What you still need to plan yourself

This bundle is physics only and does not cover the chemistry part of physical science. It contains no Mississippi standards codes, no state test items and no Mississippi examples, and it is not endorsed or approved by the Mississippi Department of Education or any district. Check it against your grade's science framework yourself. You provide any demonstration materials, since no equipment or lab kits are included, and you set the pacing. A science team wanting shared use should send Teach Lessons a short message first. If it is not right, exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value, not cash.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does this bundle match Mississippi's middle school science standards?

It is not aligned to, endorsed by or approved under the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards, and the current science framework title for your grade has not been verified here. Get the framework from your district or the Mississippi Department of Education, separate the physics objectives, and check which of the six units fit them.

Does it include chemistry?

No. All six units are physics: motion, forces, energy, fluids, circuits and light. For the chemistry side of physical science, look at Chemistry Complete – Middle School, which covers matter and its properties, atoms, elements and the periodic table, or use your own materials. The two products together give you both halves of the course.

Is it suitable for Grade 9 as well as Grade 6?

The bundle is listed for Grades 6–9. Younger students may need more time on graph reading and on forces, while older students can move faster through the units and spend more time on the calculations. Your own students' math skills and reading levels should guide the pace you set.

Do I need lab equipment?

No equipment is included or required by the materials, which are worksheets, activities, slides and answer keys. Simple demonstrations, such as floating and sinking or a basic circuit, make the units more concrete if your school has the supplies, but the lessons can be taught without them.

Can I use TEACHMORE15 on this bundle?

No. The code gives 15% off only when you buy two or more Complete Curriculum packages, such as Physics Complete – Middle School together with Chemistry Complete – Middle School. It does not apply to bundles like this one or to single units, so the bundle price stays at $89.99.

Can two physical science teachers share it?

The license is for your own teaching. If a colleague teaching the same course wants to use the units, send Teach Lessons a short message before buying and ask about team use. Please do not post the files on a public site or pass them to other schools.
