High School Biology Units for Mississippi Classrooms, Grades 9–12
High School Biology Units for Mississippi Classrooms, Grades 9–12
Mississippi biology teachers who need ready units for major topics can use the High School Biology Units Bundle: six units on photosynthesis, evolution and the origin of life, primate social behavior, chromatography, ecosystem management and climate change. It costs $89.99 and works for single topics or as a strong middle of the year. It is six units, not a full biology course, and it was not written around Mississippi's standards.
View the biology unitsThe High School Biology Units Bundle ($89.99) gives Mississippi teachers six ready units: Photosynthesis and Plant Metabolism, Evolution and the Origin of Life, Primate Social Behavior, Chromatography in Metabolic Physiology, Ecosystem Management, and Climate Change and the Anthropogenic Greenhouse Effect. Use it to cover major topics without building each one yourself. It is not aligned to the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards, so check each unit against your biology course framework first.

The real problem
What a Mississippi biology teacher has to sort out first
High school biology asks a lot of a single course. Students move from molecules in a leaf to whole ecosystems, from heredity to the history of life, and each of those topics needs its own vocabulary, diagrams and data. A teacher who is new to the course, or who teaches it alongside chemistry or physical science, can spend whole weekends building one unit. For Mississippi teachers there is also a local question this page cannot settle. The Mississippi Department of Education refers to its pre-K through Grade 12 standards as the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards. We have not verified the subject-specific title or current revision of the science framework for biology, or how the course is assessed, so get those from your district or the department before you plan. Once you have your framework open, the practical work begins: find which major topics your materials already handle well, which ones are thin, and where ready units would save the most time. Topics like photosynthesis, evolution and ecosystems tend to need the most diagram and reading support, while climate data and lab methods need clear, structured tasks so students do not get lost in the numbers.
Why it fits
Six units and where they help
Each unit is sold on its own as well, so you can check every topic on the bundle page before buying.
- Photosynthesis and Plant Metabolism gives your cell energy unit a complete, ready plant biology block.
- Evolution and the Origin of Life gives a structured unit on one of biology's central ideas.
- Primate Social Behavior adds an animal behavior topic that opens up class discussion and comparison.
- Chromatography in Metabolic Physiology connects a lab method to how organisms use and store substances.
- Ecosystem Management moves ecology from definitions to decisions about real habitats and resources.
- Climate Change and the Anthropogenic Greenhouse Effect links biology to earth systems and current data.
Getting started
Where the units can sit in your year
Your district's pacing guide decides the order. The steps below are only a suggestion for fitting six units into a biology year.
- Map units to your frameworkOpen your biology course framework under the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards and mark which objectives each of the six units touches. Note gaps the bundle does not fill.
- Use photosynthesis in the energy unitTeach Photosynthesis and Plant Metabolism when your class reaches cell energy. Pair it with your own lab if your school has the equipment, since no lab supplies are included.
- Add chromatography as a methods dayChromatography in Metabolic Physiology works well after photosynthesis, when students have seen pigments. It shows how scientists separate and identify substances, and it fits a single lesson block if your week is short.
- Teach evolution with behaviorFollow Evolution and the Origin of Life with Primate Social Behavior. The second unit gives students concrete examples of behavior in living animals to discuss after the larger ideas of the first.
- Finish with ecology and climateClose the year with Ecosystem Management and the climate change unit. Both ask students to use data and weigh choices, a good fit for end-of-year projects.
What to buy
Picking the right science bundle
For core biology topics, the High School Biology Units Bundle at $89.99 is the main pick; the six units cost $149.94 bought separately. If you teach environmental science or want more climate work, the Environmental Science Units Bundle ($69.99, parts $124.95) adds a climate data lab, resource extraction and climate ethics. Teachers of health or family and consumer sciences, or biology teachers who want a nutrition strand, can use the High School Nutrition Science Curriculum ($119.99, parts $249.90). If you also teach upper-level chemistry, the High School Chemistry Units Bundle ($89.99, parts $174.93) covers topics such as equilibrium, redox titration and molecular forces.
Honest limits
Plain limits
Six units do not make a full biology course. The bundle has no Mississippi standards codes, no state test practice and no Mississippi examples, and it is not endorsed or approved by the Mississippi Department of Education or any district. Check it against your course framework yourself. You provide lab equipment, the order of instruction and any topics the units leave out, such as other parts of your course. Teams that want to share the bundle should write to Teach Lessons first. If it does not fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value; a cash refund is not available.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Is this bundle aligned with Mississippi's biology standards?
No. It is not aligned to, endorsed by or approved under the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards, and we have not verified the current biology framework title for this page. Ask your district or the Mississippi Department of Education for the framework, then compare the six unit topics with it before you plan.
Can I teach a whole biology course with it?
No. It covers six major topics. A full biology course includes others, such as cell structure and genetics, that are not among these units. Use the bundle to save time on the topics it does cover and keep your own materials or textbook for the rest of the year.
Does it help with state test preparation?
It is not a test preparation product, and we have not verified how Mississippi assesses high school biology. The units build understanding of major topics, which supports any later review, but they contain no state test items. Ask your district what assessment applies to your course.
Are lab materials included?
No. The download contains worksheets, activities, slides and answer keys for print or digital classrooms. No lab kits, chemicals or equipment come with it. If your school has a lab, you can pair the chromatography or photosynthesis units with your own practical work and safety routines.
How is evolution handled?
Evolution and the Origin of Life is a science unit that teaches evolution as biology presents it. Read the unit description on its product page and preview it against your course framework and your district's expectations before you teach it. If you have questions about its content, write to Teach Lessons before buying.
Can our science department share one purchase?
The license covers your own teaching. For several biology teachers in one school, send Teach Lessons a short message before buying and ask about team use. Please do not post the files publicly, upload them to a shared district drive or pass them to other schools.
