What should I charge for my first teaching resource?

Starting out

Pricing your first resource feels like guesswork. It gets easier once you price by what the resource saves a teacher, not by how long it took you to make.

Short answer: Price your first teaching resource by how much planning time it saves a teacher, how many usable pages it has and what type it is. A single worksheet set often sits at a few dollars, a full unit much higher. Our optional suggestion is a minimum of $4.99 for a single resource, which pays you $3.39 per sale. You always decide the price.

How much should I charge for a worksheet?

Start with the question a buying teacher asks: "How much of my evening does this save?" A one-page worksheet saves a little. A differentiated set of ten pages with an answer key saves a planning session. A complete unit with slides, activities and assessments saves days.

Then look at three things:

  • Usable pages or slides. Count what a teacher will actually use with students, not covers and credits pages.
  • Type and depth. A ready-to-teach lesson with teacher notes is worth more than a single practice page.
  • Extras that save time. Answer keys, differentiated versions, editable files and both US Letter and A4 sizes all add real value.

Is there a minimum price at TeachLessons?

No. You set your own prices in US dollars. Our suggestion, which is optional and never a rule, is a minimum of $4.99 for a single resource. The reason is simple: at very low prices, each sale pays very little, and buyers sometimes read a very low price as a sign of low quality.

A lower price can still make sense, for example for a short sample that shows your style. The choice is yours.

What would I earn at different prices?

Your payout per sale is the price x 0.97 x 0.70, which is 67.9% of the price the customer paid. The 0.97 accounts for the 3% payment processing cost; you keep 70% of what remains. There are no listing or other fees on top.

Example resource Price Your payout per sale
Short practice set, 3-4 pages $3.00 $2.04
Task card set with recording sheet $3.50 $2.38
Worksheet pack, 10-15 pages with answer key $4.99 $3.39
Differentiated worksheet pack, three levels $5.00 $3.40
Lesson with slides, activities and notes $10.00 $6.79
Multi-week unit plan $20.00 $13.58
Large unit bundle or term of lessons $24.99 $16.97

How can I sanity-check my first price?

Before you write the price into your Resource Submission List, run a quick check that experienced teacher-authors use:

  1. Ask a colleague what they would happily pay from their own pocket for it. Teachers often buy resources with their own money, so this is a realistic test.
  2. Look at similar resources in your own shop or elsewhere and compare what is actually included, not only the page count.
  3. Check the payout at that price in the calculator. Would you be content with that amount per sale for this resource?
  4. Read your description and previews as a stranger. Does the price look fair for what you can see?

If the answers point in different directions, pick the middle and adjust later. A first price is a starting point, not a commitment.

What pricing mistakes do new teacher-authors make?

  • Pricing by hours spent. Your first resource probably took far longer than your tenth will. Buyers pay for the result, not your learning curve.
  • Pricing everything the same. A one-pager and a 40-page unit at the same price confuses buyers.
  • Pricing too low out of nerves. If you are proud of the resource, price it as something a colleague would be glad to pay for.
  • Forgetting the full catalog. Think about where the next resources will sit, so prices make sense side by side.
  • Not saying what's included. A buyer judges price against what they can see. Previews and a clear description make a fair price look fair.

Should my first resource be part of a bundle?

Usually not yet. Bundles work best once you have several resources that belong together, for example a grade-level set or a series of units. At TeachLessons, bundles only happen with your approval, and bundle revenue is shared in proportion to the regular prices of the resources inside. Our article when bundles beat single resources explains when a bundle is the better choice.

Can I change my price later?

Yes. Email the new price to support@stifo.de, and it takes effect within 5 business days. Many teacher-authors start with a price, watch how the resource does for a few months, then adjust. Your monthly statement shows every sale, which makes this easy to track.

TeachLessons may include resources in store-wide sales. Payouts are always based on the price the customer actually paid, so a discounted sale pays 67.9% of the discounted price. You can opt out of store-wide sales by email at any time.

Do I have to charge the same price as in my other shops?

Selling with TeachLessons is not exclusive, so you may also sell the same resource in your own shop or on other marketplaces. You set the price here yourself. Many sellers keep prices similar across shops so buyers who find them in more than one place see consistent pricing, but that's your decision. When you're ready, apply with the short form and put your chosen price in the Resource Submission List.
