Seller program: how it works and key terms

Plain-language summary

This page sums up the key terms of the TeachLessons Seller Program in everyday language. It is a summary, not the agreement itself. You receive the full seller agreement before any resource is listed.

About this summary

We wrote this page so you can see the main points before you apply through the submission form. It doesn't replace the seller agreement. Before we list any of your resources, we send you the full agreement to read. Where this summary and the agreement differ, or where a detail isn't covered here, the agreement governs.

This page is not legal advice. If you have questions about how the terms apply to you, it is worth asking a lawyer or adviser you trust.

The split and what net revenue means

You keep 70% of net revenue from each sale of your resources. TeachLessons keeps 30%.

Net revenue is the price the customer actually paid for your resource, after any discount and excluding sales tax or VAT, minus the payment processing cost. That cost is always 3% of the transaction.

So your payout is price × 0.97 × 0.70, which is 67.9% of the sale price. On a $10 sale, the 3% cost is 30 cents, net revenue is $9.70, and your 70% is $6.79. TeachLessons keeps $2.91. The payout calculator shows more examples.

  • No membership fee
  • No annual fee or sign-up fee
  • No listing fee or per-resource transaction fee

Payouts and statements

Payouts are made monthly, for the previous calendar month's sales. Each payout comes with a statement that lists every sale, so you can check each line against your own records.

If an order is refunded, the sale is reversed and there is no payout on it. Refunded sales are listed on your statement, so you can follow what happened to each order.

Your rights and our license

You keep your copyright. Submitting a resource doesn't transfer ownership. It stays your work.

We get a non-exclusive license. You grant TeachLessons a non-exclusive license to list and sell the resource in our store. Non-exclusive means you remain free to sell the same resource elsewhere, on your own site or other marketplaces, unless another agreement you have made says otherwise.

You can remove resources at any time. If you want a resource taken down, tell us and we'll remove it.

Our article on selling the same resource on several marketplaces explains the difference between exclusive and non-exclusive licenses in more detail.

What you confirm when you submit

When you submit a resource, you confirm that you have the right to sell it. That covers the content you wrote and everything else inside it.

In particular, check the licenses for any clip art, fonts, images or other third-party material. Some licenses allow commercial use but limit the platforms where a product can be sold. If you co-wrote a resource, make sure your co-author agrees to the listing.

It also means you aren't bound by an exclusivity agreement for that resource. If you have agreed to sell a resource only on another platform, or only through a publisher, please honor that agreement and don't submit it. Read the agreement itself to see exactly which resources it covers. Our checklist for adding resources to another platform can help.

Review, pricing and listings

  1. Review. Our team reviews each submission for quality, originality and rights and replies by email. Not every resource is accepted.
  2. Pricing. You suggest a price for each resource, and we set the final price together.
  3. Listing copy. We write or improve the title, description, FAQ and structured data as part of our free SEO work. You approve the copy before it goes live.
  4. Decline or removal. TeachLessons may decline a resource, or remove one that is already listed, for example if questions come up about quality or rights.

Tax and your own records

Sales tax and VAT are not part of the price used for your payout, so they are never split. Your monthly statements list each sale, which makes it easier to keep your TeachLessons income separate from what you earn on other platforms or in your own shop.

How that income is taxed depends on where you live and how you sell. We can't give tax advice, so check with an accountant who knows your country. Our article on record-keeping across several platforms has some general pointers.

Changes to the terms

If we change the program terms, we announce the change by email in advance, so you have time to read it and decide what to do. Because you can remove your resources at any time, you are never locked in if a change doesn't suit you.

Where to read more

The program overview covers who the program is for and how to apply. The seller FAQ answers common questions about fees, files and payouts. If you want to see how a listing with us fits next to the places you already sell, read our page on adding a second sales channel. When you are ready, send us your resources.
