The real problem
Sixth grade in San Antonio this year
San Antonio families do not all deal with the same district. San Antonio ISD is the central-city district, and Northside ISD and North East ISD are other large districts in the area. In SAISD, the 2026–27 year began in mid-August, and sixth graders at some campuses find themselves in new arrangements: Bonham Academy now serves grades four through eight, and Kelly Academy at Lowell finished consolidating into a modernized campus for Head Start through eighth grade. Northside ISD is in an optimization process that could lead to votes on closing schools in late fall 2026 or winter 2027, and North East ISD expects a campus consolidation review this fall with possible closures aimed at 2027–28. When a school's future is under review, many parents want math and reading at home to stay on track whatever happens. Families who homeschool follow Texas rules: a homeschool counts as a private school, it must use a written curriculum, which can be an online program, and it must operate in a bona fide manner. Reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics and good citizenship are required; state law does not require science or history. There is no state filing, and a letter answers a public school that asks. Confirm the details with a homeschool legal resource.
Why it fits
What the six parts do for a sixth grader
Four literacy packs and two complete math units, chosen for the year when arithmetic turns into algebra.
- Fractions Complete works through adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.
- Terms and Equations takes the step from arithmetic to algebraic terms and equations.
- Grade 6 Phonics & Academic Word Study teaches roots, prefixes and patterns in harder vocabulary.
- Grade 6 Writing Prompts add editing tools, so your child revises instead of just drafting.
- Grade 6 Grammar Practice covers sentence types and parts of speech in short sets.
- The Lighthouse Mystery gives a story with comprehension work for quieter reading evenings.
Getting started
How to run the bundle across the year
These steps are one possible approach; adapt them to your child and your calendar.
- Secure fractions firstSpend the fall on Fractions Complete. Equations go much more smoothly once your child can add and divide fractions without hesitating, so do not rush this part.
- Pair math with word studyOn alternate days, use the academic word study pages. Knowing roots and prefixes helps with longer texts in every subject, including science and social studies at school.
- Edit, then edit againOnce a week, give one writing prompt and use the editing tools. Have your child mark one change in a different color so both of you can see the revision.
- Start equations after winter breakBegin Terms and Equations in January. Work in short sessions, and go back to a fractions page whenever a problem with fractional coefficients causes trouble.
- Keep a simple recordHomeschool families can list each unit and the dates used as part of their written curriculum. District families can bring finished pages to a parent conference to show what was practiced.
What to buy
Which Grade 6 option makes sense
The 6th Grade Practice Bundle at $44.99 is the best first buy for most families; the six parts cost $64.94 separately. If your child only needs literacy work, the Grade 6 ELA Pack costs $10.99. For more math, the Middle School Math Core Units Bundle ($89.99) adds linear functions, the Pythagorean theorem, quadratics, percentages and probability, and it also contains Terms and Equations, so the two overlap there. The Algebra Foundations Bundle ($59.99) offers four workbooks on expressions, equations, real numbers and ratio for a child ready to go deeper.
Honest limits
What you still have to supply
This is not a full sixth grade curriculum, and it was not written for Texas, SAISD, Northside ISD or North East ISD. It contains no Texas content and no TEKS codes. For a homeschool, good citizenship still needs material of your own, and any science or history you choose to teach is separate. You print the pages yourself. If you teach a co-op class or tutor other children, send Teach Lessons a short message first. When the bundle is not a fit, you can exchange it within 7 days for store credit of equal value, but not for cash.
Good to know
Frequently asked questions
Does the bundle count as a Texas homeschool curriculum?
It is not approved by Texas or aligned to the TEKS, and it is only one piece of a written curriculum. Texas requires reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics and good citizenship. The bundle gives Grade 6 practice in reading, grammar, writing and math. Judging your full plan is your job, so check current rules with a homeschool legal resource.
Our Northside ISD school is under review. Is this worth starting now?
Practice at home does not depend on which building your child attends. Northside ISD's possible votes are expected in late fall 2026 or winter 2027, and none of that changes the fractions and equations a sixth grader needs. Starting now gives your child steady practice through any change.
How hard is Terms and Equations?
It is a step up from fifth grade arithmetic; the bundle presents it as the move from fractions to equations. Most children do better with short sessions and a review page from the fractions unit when they get stuck. If your child moves through it quickly, the Algebra Foundations Bundle is a natural next step.
Is anything shipped?
No. It is a digital download. The link comes by email as soon as you pay and stays in your customer account under Orders, so you can print the first fractions pages tonight and come back for more later. Nothing arrives by mail, and there is no wait for delivery.
Can I use it for two children in different grades?
Yes, within your own family. A younger sibling can use the same pages next year, and you can print fresh copies as often as you need. For a co-op or tutoring group with children from other families, send Teach Lessons a short message before sharing, and do not post the files online.
What if it turns out to be too easy?
Within 7 days you can exchange the bundle for store credit of equal value and choose something more advanced, such as the Middle School Math Core Units Bundle. Look over the list of parts on the product page first so the level matches your child.
