Sell SEL resources and school counseling materials

Seller guide: SEL and counseling

Social-emotional learning and counseling resources help students name feelings, solve problems and get along with others. Buyers in this area are careful, so your resources need to be careful too.

Short answer: To sell SEL resources on TeachLessons, apply with the short form, then email your final files, previews and thumbnails to support@stifo.de. Describe what each activity does without promising mental-health outcomes, keep real student data out of every file and give clear age bands. You keep 70% of net revenue.

Which SEL and counseling resources do schools buy?

Buyers include classroom teachers running morning meetings, school counselors planning small groups, and support staff who work one-to-one. Each looks for something different.

Classroom SEL lessons

Short lessons on feelings, friendship, conflict resolution or growth mindset, with a discussion, an activity and a reflection.

Calm-down and check-in tools

Feelings check-in charts, calm corner cards and breathing exercise posters, printable and easy to read.

Small-group curricula

Six to eight sessions on one theme, such as friendship skills or managing worry, for counselors to run with a small group.

Conversation and scenario cards

Realistic, age-appropriate scenarios for role-play and problem-solving discussions.

Counselor admin tools

Blank planning templates, lesson trackers and classroom-visit planners. These must not ask the buyer to store sensitive data in an unsafe way.

Games

Board games and card games that build skills such as turn-taking, emotion words and problem solving.

What can I claim about SEL resources?

Describe what the resource contains and what students do with it. Do not promise outcomes. Schools are cautious, and a resource that sounds like therapy can worry a principal or a parent.

Avoid Write instead
Reduces anxiety in students Six lessons that teach students words and strategies for worried feelings
Treats ADHD behaviors Visual routines and break cards for classroom use
Proven to improve behavior Scenario cards for practicing calm problem-solving
Trauma therapy activities Calm corner cards and a simple check-in chart

Add a short note in teacher-facing resources: these activities support classroom learning and do not replace professional support. Where a student needs help, the school's counselor, psychologist or safeguarding lead should be involved, following school policy. Keep your resources for general classroom and small-group use, not for diagnosis or treatment.

How do I keep student privacy safe in counseling resources?

Resources must contain no personal data of real students. In counseling, it is tempting to use a real case as an example. Do not. Change everything, or better, write a fictional scenario from scratch.

  • Use made-up names that are clearly fictional and avoid details that could point to a real child or school.
  • Do not include photos of real students, even in previews.
  • Trackers and data sheets should be blank templates. Remind buyers to store completed forms according to their school's data protection and confidentiality rules.
  • Avoid worksheets that ask students to disclose very personal information in front of classmates. A private journal page with an opt-out is more appropriate.

Can I mention named SEL programs and frameworks?

Many SEL programs and behavior frameworks are trademarks owned by companies or organizations. Do not use their names in your title as if your resource were part of that program, and do not copy their materials, characters or wording. You can say factually that your resource "can be used alongside" a framework if that is true, but be careful even with that.

Generic terms are fine and better for search: social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, friendship skills, growth mindset, restorative conversations. If you use clip art of characters or emotion faces, check that the license allows commercial use in resources you sell. Using clip art and fonts in resources you sell explains licenses.

How should I set age bands for SEL resources?

SEL content that fits a five-year-old feels babyish to a twelve-year-old, and middle schoolers will reject anything that looks young. Pick a narrow band and design for it.

  • Early years and Grades K-2: pictures, emotion faces, short sentences, songs and movement.
  • Grades 3-5: scenarios from school life, simple journaling, cooperative games.
  • Middle school: realistic peer situations, online behavior, identity and stress, with a less childish visual style.
  • High school: goal setting, decision making, relationships and planning for the future.

UK buyers may search for PSHE, and Australian buyers for wellbeing or personal and social capability. Use those words in descriptions for those markets. For older students, the middle school guide has more on what appeals to that age group.

How should I preview and price SEL resources?

Previews and thumbnails as PNG or JPEG are required. Show one lesson page, a few cards and the teacher notes so buyers can judge the tone. Keep thumbnails calm and readable: the title, the age band and one image. See how to make previews and thumbnails.

You set the price in US dollars; our optional suggestion is at least $4.99 for a single resource.

Feelings check-in chart $3.00 $2.04
Set of five classroom SEL lessons $5.00 $3.40
Scenario card deck with teacher guide $5.00 $3.40

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Can I say my resource helps with anxiety?

Describe what students do, such as learning words and strategies for worried feelings, rather than promising to reduce anxiety. Avoid any claim of treatment or diagnosis.

Can I base a resource on a real counseling case?

No. Resources must contain no personal data of real students. Write fictional scenarios instead.

Can I use the name of a well-known SEL program?

Not in a way that suggests your resource is part of it, and never copy its materials. Use generic terms such as conflict resolution or emotional regulation.

Do counselors buy resources as well as teachers?

Yes. School counselors often look for small-group curricula and calm-down tools. Say clearly whether a resource is for whole-class or small-group use.

Can I sell the same SEL resources elsewhere?

Yes. There is no exclusivity, unless you signed an exclusive deal elsewhere for that resource.

How much do I earn on a $20 curriculum?

You earn $13.58 per sale, paid monthly by the 15th via PayPal in US dollars.
