Make it work for everyone
Differentiation and evidence of learning
Four levels of one task keep a mixed seventh-grade class working on the same phenomenon while the reading and reasoning load shifts. Use the lower tiers with students still building the practice, and the top tier with students ready to argue from evidence. Annotated student work prepares them for a WCAS cluster far better than a multiple-choice review.

Frequently asked questions
Are these aligned to Washington State Learning Standards?
Not in any official sense. Nothing here is reviewed or endorsed by OSPI or by any district. The units are written to the concepts and skills the standards cover, so teachers usually find they line up with a performance expectation already in their scope and sequence. Judging whether a unit fits is your call.
Do the science units work for NGSS-style teaching?
They are built around a phenomenon or a problem, with tasks that ask students to explain, model and argue from evidence, which is what the practices call for. You will still want to name the disciplinary core idea and crosscutting concept for your class, and since the slides are editable that framing takes minutes.
How do these fit with Since Time Immemorial?
They do not replace it. Since Time Immemorial is tribal sovereignty curriculum developed with Washington tribes and should be taught from those materials as written. Use these units for the surrounding content and skills, rather than trying to fold sovereignty content into a commercial resource.
Our district uses open resources. Is there any point?
Usually yes. Open materials tend to give you a solid task sequence and very little else, so teachers end up writing the scaffolded version, the slides and the answer key themselves. That is precisely the labor a finished unit removes, and editable files let you match the vocabulary your adopted materials use.
