Quick answer

For fifth grade home practice, the 5th Grade Practice Bundle ($42.99) is the most complete single option here. It includes Grade 5 grammar, writing prompts, phonics and morphology, The Secret Garden Door and Mia and the Magic Kite reading stories, the Interactive Math Workshop, the Chance & Events probability unit and the Growing Math teaching kit. It is practice, not a full year, and it is not written for Oklahoma.

The real problem

Fifth grade in Oklahoma City, at school and at home

OKCPS started classes on August 11, 2026, and plans its last day for May 20. This year district teachers prepared around science of reading standards and new math instruction, so a fifth grader may meet different routines in reading and math than last spring. Parents often notice it at the kitchen table: a homework page uses a method nobody at home learned, or a reading task expects your child to break long words into parts. Fifth grade is also the last year before middle school, and gaps in multiplication, division or writing a clear paragraph tend to follow a student into sixth grade. For homeschool families the setting is different. HSLDA states that Oklahoma has no reporting or testing requirement, that a program may follow its own guidelines as long as it teaches for 180 days, and that no statute lists required subjects; it recommends math, language arts, science and social studies. That freedom puts the planning on you. You decide what fifth grade covers, how much practice is enough and how you will know progress is real. Either way, a ready set of pages with clear topics makes the year easier to steer.

Why it fits

Where the eight parts earn their place

The bundle mixes literacy packs, math practice and two math resources. Here is what each gives a fifth grader at home.

  • Grade 5 Phonics & Morphology works on word parts, which helps with long words in every subject.
  • The Secret Garden Door and Mia and the Magic Kite give two stories for comprehension practice.
  • Grade 5 English Grammar covers parts of speech, sentence types and punctuation in short pages.
  • Writing prompts give structured practice for confident writers who need more than a blank page.
  • Interactive Math Workshop practices multiplying, dividing and measuring, skills that carry into middle school.
  • Chance & Events and the Growing Math kit for Grades 5–9 offer an early look at middle school math.

Getting started

One way to spread it from August to May

These suggestions follow the OKCPS calendar. Homeschool families can shift them to fit their own 180 days.

  1. August–September: grammar and mathBegin with Grade 5 English Grammar and the Interactive Math Workshop. Two or three short sessions a week show you where your child is secure and where not.
  2. October–December: the reading storiesRead The Secret Garden Door together, then let your child answer the questions alone. Save Mia and the Magic Kite for a quiet week over winter break.
  3. January–February: word parts and writingAdd Phonics & Morphology alongside one writing prompt a week. Ask your child to underline prefixes and roots in their own drafts, then talk about what each part means.
  4. March–April: probabilityWork through Chance & Events. Probability makes a good weekend afternoon activity for the whole family and gives a break from rows of practice problems.
  5. May: a look at middle schoolBefore OKCPS lets out on May 20, open the Growing Math kit for Grades 5–9 and try a few pages so sixth grade math feels familiar.

What to buy

Fifth grade bundle or a smaller pick

The 5th Grade Practice Bundle at $42.99 (parts $62.92) is the best value if you want both literacy and math. If math is going well and you only need reading and writing, the Grade 5 ELA Pack ($13.99, parts $19.95) has the grammar, writing, morphology and both stories. A child ready for more math can move to the Middle School Math Starter Bundle ($54.99, parts $77.96), with fractions, compass constructions and algebraic expressions. Families thinking ahead to next year can look at the 6th Grade Practice Bundle ($44.99).

Honest limits

Before you buy: the limits

This is practice for Grade 5, not a complete fifth grade curriculum, and it has no science or social studies. It was not written for Oklahoma, carries no Oklahoma Academic Standards codes and is not approved by the state or OKCPS. If your child attends OKCPS, the teacher's assignments come first. Families homeschooling in Oklahoma should verify today's rules through the state or a homeschool legal group. You supply printing, paper and dice. One purchase is licensed for your household, so a co-op or tutoring circle should write to Teach Lessons before sharing. A bundle that turns out wrong for your fifth grader can be swapped within 7 days for store credit of equal value, never cash.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does the bundle follow the Oklahoma Academic Standards?

No. It is not aligned with the Oklahoma Academic Standards and has not been reviewed or approved by the state or Oklahoma City Public Schools. It practices general fifth grade skills such as grammar, word parts, multiplication, division, measurement and probability. To match what your child's class is doing, ask the teacher which skills are coming up and compare the pages with the state standards yourself.

Is it enough for a homeschool fifth grade year in Oklahoma?

Not on its own. It covers language arts practice and parts of math, with no science or social studies. HSLDA notes that Oklahoma has no required subject list but recommends math, language arts, science and social studies, and that some courts have suggested homeschooling should be comparable to public school. Use it as one piece of a plan and confirm current law with a homeschool legal resource.

My child's school uses new math methods. Will this confuse them?

It may look different from the class method in places. The practice pages work on the skill itself, such as multiplying or measuring. If your child's teacher uses a particular strategy, let your child show it to you and use that strategy on these pages too. When in doubt, ask the teacher at the next conference.

How long does each piece take?

There are no fixed times. A grammar page suits a short session, while the reading stories and Chance & Events take longer. As a suggestion, plan three or four short sessions a week during the school year and something a little longer on weekends or during breaks.

Can I print pages for two children?

Yes, within your own family. The licence covers use in your own teaching, so siblings at home can use the same files. If you run a homeschool co-op or tutor other families, send Teach Lessons a short message before buying, since group use needs agreement first.

How do I get the files?

Right after checkout you receive a download link by email, and the files stay in your customer account under Orders. There is nothing to install. If you find within 7 days that the bundle is not the right fit, you can exchange it for store credit of equal value; there are no cash refunds.
