KS2 and KS3 Units for Year 4 to Year 9
KS2 and KS3 units for Year 4 to Year 9
Twenty new units cover maths, science, English, PSHE-style life skills and more for Years 4 to 9. Each is a closed block of six to fifteen lessons with a separate teacher guide. This page maps every unit to a year group and shows which ones suit key stage 2 and key stage 3.
See the recommended unitsIn short: The units were written for US grades, so for England you add one: Grade 3 is roughly Year 4 and Grade 8 is roughly Year 9. That gives you maths, science, English and life-skills units across KS2 and KS3, each with a teacher guide, answers and a project. They are written with the National Curriculum in England in mind. No approval or alignment by any body is claimed, so check each unit against your own scheme of work.
Reading the year groups
Grade plus one gives the year group
US grades run one year behind English year groups, so a Grade 5 unit sits at roughly Year 6 and a Grade 7 unit at roughly Year 8. That is a rough guide, and some units cover a range, such as Grades 4 to 5 or Grades 6 to 8. In each case the lesson list tells you more than the label does, so read it before you decide.
The units use the same pattern throughout. Most lessons have an explanation page, a practice page and a case card, and every unit finishes with vocabulary pages, a learning check and a project. The spelling inside the student pages is American, and the guarantee covers a British-spelling edit if you need one for your pupils.
Key stage 2
Years 4 to 6: science, maths, life skills and vocabulary
For Year 4, Life Cycles and Inherited Traits has eight lessons on life-cycle patterns, butterfly development, flowering plants, inherited similarities and variation. Year 5 teachers can use Energy and Waves, on energy, speed, collisions and wave patterns, and Earth's Changing Surface, on rock layers, weathering, erosion and natural hazards.
Year 6 has the most to choose from. Decimals and Fractions and Volume and the Coordinate Plane give a full maths block on decimals, fractions, volume and graphing in the first quadrant, and Matter and Ecosystems moves from particle models to food webs. Across KS2, Executive Function Skills gives pupils fifteen lessons on planning and monitoring their own work, and Digital Citizenship and AI has eight lessons on privacy, passwords, kindness and checking claims. Both suit PSHE-style time.
Money Basics covers needs and wants, saving, simple budgets and a classroom economy with fictional budgets. 200 Science Words offers 200 terms for multilingual learners, with sentence frames and Spanish connection notes, so it is a natural partner for EAL provision.
Key stage 3
Years 7 to 9: English, statistics and geometry
In Year 7, Treasure Island has eight lessons across the six parts of the novel, with map and inference work and persuasive and narrative writing. Statistics and Data runs from statistical questions to box plots and comparing data sets. Poetry: Read, Think, Create suits Years 7 to 9 and gives you twelve short public-domain poems by Emily Dickinson and Robert Louis Stevenson with six skill lessons.
Year 8 English can use The Call of the Wild, a nine-lesson novel study that includes naturalism as a lens, and Argument and Research, with its three original text sets and fictional data cards. For Year 9 maths, Geometric Transformations gives eight lessons on mappings, translations, reflections, rotations, dilations, congruence and similarity. The novel studies link to free primary texts rather than reproducing the books.
US content
The four units that are about the United States
Four of the twenty units are built around US content: US Regions and State Geography, The American Revolution, The US Constitution and Three Branches and Native Nations Today. They suit a Year 5 or Year 6 class that is studying the United States, or a teacher who wants a worked example of inquiry with sources. For most English schemes of work they are the least direct fit, and you may prefer the other sixteen.
The Grades 3 to 8 bundles overview page lists the bundles, including the US Social Studies Bundle, and shows what each saves.
Planning
Using the units with a UK scheme of work
The units are closed blocks, so they slot into half-term plans without rewriting a whole scheme. A unit of eight lessons fits a half-term of a weekly slot with room for the learning check, and the longer units can run across two. The materials give no timings, so the table below is a suggestion that you can stretch or compress.
Teachers mapping the content to the National Curriculum in England will find the lesson titles listed on each unit page. The guide pages include answers and case guidance, which makes marking quicker. If a unit needs a change to match your scheme, the TeachLessons Guarantee applies and the editable DOCX editions make small edits easy.

Is TeachLessons connected to the Department for Education or an exam board?
No. TeachLessons is independent and is not endorsed by any department, ministry, state or exam board.
Can I buy a bundle instead of single units?
